ST, I only moved here in 2008 (for reason of the wife), I lived most of the rest of my life in the East Riding, I know full well what the HDM is like! Ealing Gazette is generally full of our Easter Monday opponents so I never buy it.

But my point still stands, they're so parochial, almost as if they believe no-one outside their catchment area is going to read the feature and articles they run. I've looked at other regional papers, while looking for stuff for VitalFootball, but I've never seen this 'For more, buy today's paper' on any of them. Insecurity perhaps?

Probably frightened to be found out as useless hacks, that are lucky to have found someone that believes in care in the community, and employed them!!!

If you're stupid enough to think Google trends is any basis for an argument, little wonder you're too thick to find it. A survey of season pass post code information showed TWS to be the worst supported club by people in the home City.

As for the link, a proper Leeds fan would know exactly where it is.<ok>

Obviously I feel a dislike for Man U and Chelsea but if they are committed to that one club for life and make an effort to watch their team when they can, I don't question their supportership.

That's a stupid basis. On that basis, Scotland is an elephant polo nation, not a football nation.

He's clearly stuck by his team and I can only respect him for that. His rugby affiliation means nothing to me.

I am not a Conservative, or indeed a conservative.

If I'm reading the news, I'll read a national paper - YP is good for the regional sport stuff, I don't bother with it otherwise.

    No thank you.

"Season passes" (which I assume are season tickets?) are a poor way to judge out of town fans. The Hull Daily Mail isn't just writing for season ticket holders, is it? And I still can't find the website, I've searched Hull Whites, EY Whites and East Yorkshire Whites with no results, so you'll have to forgive me for not being a proper supporter.

I bet Il Dunce's an expert on the different types of yawns and glazed expressions people have when he talks to them.<laugh>

Lambo, I reckon HDF are waiting to tell you that they're putting together a piece so it looks like they've turned the corner and taken on board the comments of their potential readership. They'll be true to type very soon after. That's my guess.<ok>

PS the site saying they were nearly up to a minibus full of members after merging Hull and East Riding sites (and mainly students studying here in Gods acres) was on the regional bit of the Waccoff site, but much of it's been deleted after much ridicule now I'm told.

There's also Hull Whites group with nearly 300 members: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=110005132349928, as if Facebook groups give any useful demographic info whatsoever. Like I say about the coach, definitely not a minibus. Maybe that was for a midweek/away game or something when people had to work so couldn't go?

Duncey, nobody really cares, but it was a long running saga that lead to celebrations at almost having enough fans to fill a minibus once they merged East Yorkshire and Hull groups. Funny as **** it was, no wonder they deleted it. Now, just go find some rivals to play with, we've grown up things to discuss.

That's funny, there's 278 members on that site, only five of them identify where they are, two are in Wakefield, two are in Wiltshire and one is in York, I'm not sure they quite understand what a Hull Whites group is for. <laugh>

Having missed Paul Baxter's call(while picking up a Chinese take away), he's just called me back and fair play to him, he spoke to me for almost an hour. He seems a decent enough bloke, he argued some points with me, he accepted others.

Firstly, with regard to the rugby violence/football violence reporting, he said that they just reported what they knew of. He said they don't have reporters outside the ground, so unless it kicks off inside the ground they depended on the police to give them reports of what had happened. He basically suggested that the police always report football violence to them, but not always the trouble at a rugby game. He also stressed that the reporting about the Millwall game was from the news desk, not from the sports desk and that they'd got a lot of grief for something in which they'd had no involvement. He acknowledged that the reports ahead and immediately after the Millwall game were unhelpful and had damaged the reputation of the paper, something he regretted.

With regard to the Malet Lambert school competition win, he said that he couldn't justify sending a reporter to the game, but that their youth football reporting was a good as any local paper in the country. They did apparently run a full page write up on the game, along with photo's, but they put non of it online(I suggested that they should have done).

With regard to Nick Wood's flippant comments about the failure to send anyone to the game on Blunderside last night, he said it was regrettable and he'd have a word. He also said that Wood never wanted anyone to know he was a Leeds fan and was most upset when Gwylim Lloyd revealed it on Blunderside. Despite being a Leeds fan, he doesn't want City to lose games and is not in any way anti-City. I suggested he should put more effort into getting that across to his readers.

He said that the lack of access at the club is a major problem for them, he raised this with Adam at the start of the season, but thinks he probably messed up the timing, as Adam had so much else on his plate at the time. Relations between the Mail and Adam got a bit strained during the Bullard saga, which he thinks hasn't helped, but he thinks they're getting over that now. He said there had been a sea change after Brownie had left, with everything that was going on neither Pearson was keen on talking to them, which was completely different to Brownie, who'd talk to them about any old bollocks. He says that now things have calmed down and the results have improved, Nigel has been far more easy going, but he has little time for the media in general. He only cares about winning football matches, he sees everything else as fluff.

He appreciates the fact that City fans don't like the fact that there's no City fan on the staff, he's asked me if there's anyone I know who might like to contribute to the paper to rectify this, I didn't volunteer, though I have suggested someone else who I think could do a decent job.

With regard to the suggestion that we should have started another 'Dare to Dream' campaign, he said it had been discussed, if we beat Boro and get any sort of result against DQPR, then it will be front page and the campaign will start in earnest.

All in all, he was very decent, he listened to all my complaints, agreed with some and disputed others, but he accepts there's more the paper can do to improve the way it's perceived by City fans.

Good on him, he could have just told you to piss off.

I still can't see this changing anything.

"....He said they don't have reporters outside the ground, so unless it kicks off inside the ground they depended on the police to give them reports of what had happened...." Sorry No.1 I dont accept this. Their reporters were inside the ground at the MIllwall game and did nothing to report the injustice that followed the game. I think you've been sold a line on the whole Hull Daily Mail issue. If that was the first step in the Hull Daily Mail's 'hearts and minds' campaign to a broader more educated readership, then it failed miserably. The fact of the matter is that the Hull Daily Mail caters for its market, just as the the Yorkshire Post, The Sun and The News of the World does. They are all different markets for traditional dwindling readership and the Hull Daily Mail reporters are no more than car salesmen trying to sell a dying product to those they best serve. The Mail's main market is now for 'hatches, matches and scratches', which does not involve Professional reporting. In fact I d say that it is possibly no more than a cash cow in Northcliffe's crumbling traditional newspaper empire so I dont personally expect the standard of journalism to much change!

You may well be right Mussie, but the bloke seems genuinely upset that they're becoming unpopular with so many City fans and that alone might drive him to make some changes(probably minor) to the way they do things. I've suggested a couple of people that they should have contributing to the paper, if we just get the involvement of a City fan it will be a step forward.
