I don't know mate. That's what I'm asking, I know **** all about him. Is he not as good as Dunne or Collins? Is he a poor trainer? Is he a sick note? Michael Owen, Nicky Butt and Jonathan Woodgate, Kieron Dyer, Ledley King and Andriy Shevchenko make a mockery of the argument that players should play passed 30. It works both ways. I'm not saying he's ancient or passed it by any means just saying for all intents and purposes he'll probably be 32 by the time he plays for us. I don't think you can quite add Cuallar to a list of the calibre that you mentioned.
2000–2001 Calahorra 19 0 2001–2003 Numancia 62 4 2003–2007 Osasuna 71 2 2007–2008 Rangers 36 4 2008–2012 Aston Villa 94 2 2012– Sunderland 0 0 Stats for Cuellar
Lets just give Cuellar(and perhaps Martin Neill) a chance, rather than casting doubts from the outset - why are some so pessimistic, not so much glass half empty, rather knocked onto the floor and smashed into little pieces. I don't think you can use age as a reason to cast doubts on a players ability, perhaps he is not in the same calibre as the players I mention, regardless it proves the point that you can continue to make a contribution beyond your 30th birthday, it is not exceptional. Ok we won't get out transfer fee back,..no fee involved. Maybe MON does not know anything about him....has managed him before. I mean "He gets injured quite a lot I think im not sure", ffs is this an Alan Partridge line, why not look it up before posting it.
He played most of his games for Villa at RB although he is a CB. I can only think he has been bought for cover because Oshea and Brown were both quite injury prone and he can cover several positions. I think Bramble will go and this is his replacement. As others have said defense is not our problem. I am far more interested to see who he signs going forward. Also remember signings are not really MONs strong point. He does not generally go for big names, his strength is getting the best out of the players he does sign. Anyone notice Spain won the Euro's with the Steve Bruce 460 formation
Cuellar, the most predictable signing possible for MoN, Heskey next lads! followed by Stephen Warnock
now now lads lets get rid of the handbags and get this back on track. Personally think its a good signing we don't have unlimited funds and we still need another 5 or 6 so Cuellar on a free is a very good signing IMO, the lad is a proven premier league player and when given a chance he will let nobody down. starting to get abit more excited about the start of the season now, I hope the Holt rumors are not true as I would be abit underwhelmed but I would love to be proved wrong. Hopefully our reported interested in Olsson, Johnson, Fletcher, Guidetti are all genuine and we manage to get them all in, add a creative cm like free agent Manu Fernandes and free agent Louis Saha as 2nd/3rd choice striker and we will be in shape to go, not arsed who we bring in as 3rd choice keeper as they probably won't even play a game for the clubs first team
I am very happy with this guy. While our defence was apparently strong (IMO it wasn't - remember 4-0 drubbing to WBA to name a few matches), I think this guy will be a major improvement. He is strong in the air, & while he does not have a turn of pace that all you desire (does Puyol, Terry???) his positional sense is much better than what we have. He is 100% better than Killa, Turner & Bramble. Some fans need to stop complaining & trust MON.
Is he not our new RB? Wonder where this leaves Seb as this screams to me we are getting a pacey right winger.......
