It's a practical consideration and the money is tokenism at best. The Jewish community would much prefer Starmer to put an end to the weekly hate fests in London instead of this money. That would go much further to keep them safe in the long run.

Yes, if the Southport community had been repeatedly targeted, it would warrant extra funding. Same if army veterans were repeatedly targeted. But that isn't the case, which means you are essentially calling for every white British majority town and village to receive extra protection in case an attack happens. Maybe they should, but it would cost trillions.

The Jewish community isn't better, it's just far more vulnerable and exposed. There are appx 250k of them in the whole country and they mainly live in one of four cities, so they're really easy to find and target.

Any holy book can be a huge problem if misinterpreted. For centuries Christians tortured, maimed and burned at the stake in the name of Jesus' love.

It shocks me to see how the Torah is misinterpreted by right-wing settlers in the West Bank, who believe that God allows them to do what they want with anyone living on "their" land.

And there are plenty of sections of the Quran that are just as easily misinterpreted.

If I had to level any criticism against the Islamic community specifically, it would be that I just don't see or hear nearly enough condemnation from their leaders when attacks happen. In fact it is often radio silence. This emboldens the extreme minority to carry on as they were.

My point was we all need protection from hateful murdering muslims and no amount of money will get rid of the quran or its teachings

Thing for all of us to think about is that 5 years ago, or so, nobody would have been flying Union Jacks or St George's from our homes etc - unless it was at the time of footie tournaments or possibly St George's day - the proliferation of them now is a signal, partly of defiance, partly reaction - certainly understandable - but it's not a historic norm now under threat of suppression.

I went to the States in the early 2000s on a business trip and travelled from New York to New Jersey where our offices were - was immediately struck by the number of stars and stripes flying from porches along the drive... arguably more common than not - remember mentioning it to the missus when I got home - contrasting it against 'our' norm / habit...

Fine post CK - and you certainly have a point in the last paragraph - needs more public statements / condemnation of atrocities from senior clerics in the UK.

Where I of course differ from you is on a blanket banning of protests - provided those protests are lawful and don't preach hate - if nobody was prepared to speak out and object to the mass killing of civilians, wherever it occurs in the world, then humanity is well and truly ****ed...
