I came to the same thought, you can't blame him really
 
That pitch is a flat Yorkshire pudding now mind. 384 is a lot to get, but on that pitch, with tired bowlers it's very gettable.

Neither batsman bothered at all yet. Long day ahead I'd say.

They are very strong favourites to win this.

Lack of intensity in the bowling and a pitch that has died completely. Done by tomorrow lunchtime, if not earlier.

Was half expecting this. Even Broads announcement last night...in his mind...he probs thought it was all going to be a fairy tale day today. It's human nature to lack intensity when you think you've already won.
It happens in the FA Cup 3rd round often.
Luckily for us and unlucky for the Aussies tomorrow is another day. This time the rain might actually have saved England!

All the bowlers look tired. As do the Aussies. But batting last on that track is a dream. It is very flat and very slow now. Bit of turn, but slow turn.

They would have to give a lot of wickets away to mess that chase up now.

Thanks so much for highlighting these two, mate. Absolutely brilliant. Really has enhanced my ashes. I'll watch them now whether Australia are playing England or Bangladesh. Tremendous entertainment.

Chance gone now I'd think.

Effectively only three bowlers. As soon as Jimmy came on the pressure eased. A bit of movement, but only from a long way out. As soon as he pitched it up nothing, and some easy runs got Australia going .

Ali getting a bit, but he's obviously struggling.

It's not out. He's dropped it as part of the whole "catching and movement of body" law that got Starc. I don't think it was a celebration, just the natural movement of the arms back to starting position. That is the series right there sadly

I disagree. I think he dropped it in the first movement of his celebration to throw the ball up in the air. If he wasn't going to throw it in the air he wouldn't have dropped it as he wouldn't have caught his leg with the ball.

Whilst I agree and completely see the point, the Smith catch on Root completely rankles with me! If the Smith one is out, then so is that. He is in far more control of the ball than smith ever was, as was Starc!

(this is he saying the smith one is not out by the way, not that this is)
