Lunch 59-4. We'll played Hameed 25 not out, amidst all the carnage, he's looked very composed. Can get bogged down but he's just got to stay at the crease for as long as possible this innings. Pope looks good too, but looks like he's gonna get out playing a stupid shot against Lyon. He's much happier facing pace but is trying to not let Lyon dominate us, be happier seeing him just rotate for singles against him for now. After an hoffific start there is a possibility that as the ball gets older and the pitch improves , that maybe these two could put on a partnership that gives up hope ! Let's hope so anyway

We need to somehow get to 200-5 at stumps ! Gonna take some serious batting and concentration
 
Excellent counter attack from Buttler with solid support from Pope. 108-5 , partnership currently 48 with Buttler getting 35 of them. Need these 2 to still be there at tea, and push on sfter that.

It's twofold I think, firstly Root wanted to lay down a marker and say were not afraid of your bowlers and we're gonna put up a big 1st innings score to start the series and secondly once they'd selected Leach they were always gonna want to bowl last on a deteriorating wicket. Obviously at the moment , it looks like bad choices but you never know

How has Pope got out to that ball ? Awful shot. Great diving catch but to play that aerially to the one man down there is terrible. Dire straits now

Yes, hindsight is a marvellous thing.
There will be many more twist & turns to come.
