Pope looks good too, but looks like he's gonna get out playing a stupid shot against Lyon. He's much happier facing pace but is trying to not let Lyon dominate us, be happier seeing him just rotate for singles against him for now. After an hoffific start there is a possibility that as the ball gets older and the pitch improves , that maybe these two could put on a partnership that gives up hope ! Let's hope so anyway

It's twofold I think, firstly Root wanted to lay down a marker and say were not afraid of your bowlers and we're gonna put up a big 1st innings score to start the series and secondly once they'd selected Leach they were always gonna want to bowl last on a deteriorating wicket.
