Yes in my opinion, but the term 'conspiracy theory' has been used as a way to denigrate and patronise in order that theories can't be considered on merit.
The things that are conspiracy theories are mostly absolute BS by people wearing tin foil hats. Whichbdiesn mean there are no conspiracies, but some fruitcakes see conspiracies lurking everywhere and ding bats believe them.
To accept that you need to believe everything we're told by the usual official networks is absolutely true.
That is unlikely and requires a level of trust that borders on religious faith.
If there are no such things as conspiracies then we need to believe the likes of the CIA and KGB have never acted subversively and Watergate never happened.
That is a different thing altogether. And those who believe everything they are told by the usual official networks are just as daft as those who automatically dismiss everything they are told by the official networks.
So you accept conspiracies exist then? And if there is such a thing as a conspiracy why shouldn't there be a conspiracy theory?
Most of the conspiracy theories come from from conspiracy theorists who see conspiracies in everything, disbelieve everything as a knee jerk reaction, and are genrally dingbats.
Much to his chagrin, a manager of a football club is ordered by the court to repay a huge sum of money to his former club. Since he left his former club they have struggled and languish in the bottom three, unable to buy a win. In contrast, his current team are on a good run and are well-placed in the league. Comes the time when the two teams meet, a home fixture for his current side. Coincidentally, the manager of his former team is also a proven liar and bung-taker and somehow they contrive between them a way to ensure that his former team are finally able to buy a win. However much it cost his former team it was worth it as their form immediately improved and they are now out of the bottom three and close to being safe, whilst his current team continue to do okay and will likely finish in the top ten, so no harm done.

There's a lot of generalisations thrown out there and I don't disagree that people love a conspiracy, but equally human nature dictates there will always be those who cheat to gain an advantage and that alone is reason to not dismiss conspiracy theories at face value.
I was expecting aliens, ghosts, twin towers self harming & non-existent moon landings.

It really depends how you define corruption. To think that it could never happen or has never happened even in our own game is totally and utterly naïve, especially when you see some of the other sports that have been penetrated over the years. The fact it has happened in football, although not uncovered in this country, does not mean we are immune to it.
Agree with that regarding officials but in the 60's several English players went to prison for match-fixing.
Sheffield Wed were one top tier club involved and my sister went on a couple of dates with one of the players prior to his imprisonment.
