Footballers contracts are complex at the best of times (I've seen a few).... and now Watford seem to be doing more and more of these contracts where they sign them for 2 years with an option of a 3rd year. I guess it's down to who's decision this 3rd year is. I understood it to be Watford can take up the option of the 3rd year, as long as it is on the same terms otherwise they can go on a free (like Kiernan did), but I think the Cowie's case has shown it has to be mutual rather than just the club saying yes we are taking it, and the player is here for another year!

what a complete and utter idiot you are.

how are you entitled to any money? he's 29, you paid a nominal fee for him, i highly doubt we would have signed him knowing that we could later be stung by a transfer fee, MM would have known the contractual situation, you on the other hand are just speculating without any common sense or knowledge of whats going on. i wont stoop as low as you have and attack you for being english for whatever reason but still, you're a muppet.

Guys all I can say is "calm down". However in the cold light of day Swamp is right.

What amazes me is the reaction of Watford FC, they should have stuck to the "we tried to get him to sign an extension" routine. Cowie cost 50k, we had 2 and a half years and he didn't want to re-sign.

Free transfer - end of. Whatever happened to that good for nothing John Luc Bosman? The last I heard he was penniless.

Elixir - yes he may well be right, but as far as I know, nothing has been announced yet and the club are still investigating. So the cold light of day is yet to arrive.

The possibility still exists that the club are correct - that was the whole point of the discussion, and was the point that our little welsh visitor completely missed before strangely jumping in with both guns blazing.

Did you see the "Official Announcement" on the Watford FC website? It said he had joined Cardiff on a free transfer, there was no ambiguity there.

IMO Cowie has gone, I would not supprt any action to chase Cardiff for money. I do think Watford FC have cocked up here. I doubt if we will see any more of these "options" clauses.

I agree - does seem we have messed up on this one, with a contrat too open to interpretation! I guess it is to cover ourselves in case it doesn't work out, but this is the danger of only giving 2 years rather than 3!

Hopefully this is a lesson learned - but not a lot the new people could after it was the previous lot who gave this contract (although sure some people will still claim it is Bas' fault).

Sorry Guys
It seems that your Goalkeeper is next on Malkies List !!
Cant see why as the two we have now are very decent, i would now like to see him leave you lot alone now, should be good on boxing day though, you just wont know who to cheer for.
Good Luck

I think Loach is pretty happy here, even if he does get a little bit of abuse on Twitter....

It will have to take a pretty big bid for us to accept as we are in a position now where we can refuse any bids coming in, unless they are for silly money! I can't really see Loach pushing for the move either!

It would be nice if Malky just sods off and finds players for himself now!!

you signed him for a nominal fee, we get him on a free, so its not as if you're losing a big money signing on a free. if he's any good he would have left your club anyway to a better club, so why so much hate towards the player and our club? who would want to spend their career fighting against relegation to a league one club when they can move to a more progressive club who will probably pay him a damn site more than he was on with you guys.

I genuinely can't believe that Cardiff fans don't know about Don Cowie in regards to how good he is. Lets not kid ourselves we're gonna miss him pretty badly... versatile, two good feet, decent finisher and a hard worker im just surprised no one decided to buy him before
Without a doubt going to miss him, dissapointed in Malky aswell but in regards to Cowie he didn't want to sign a new contract and theres nothing wrong with that its his choice, we need to concentrate on finding some sort of replacement now and quickly because we are running out of time
