Indeed at a total nett book value of 1.1 million at 31st December!! Not a bad profit so far, we could pay somebody a couple of million for the rest of the squad and break even!!!
Total value may be there but (and I have not checked) I doubt the accounts include enough detail to see an individual player
mmm, with a club like Watford the player values have to be taken into account as both Vic Rd (what a mess) and the training ground are mortgaged to the limit. And Vic Rd now has the other "charge" against it with the housing trust, so any change of use (except to full residential) would be problematic ...... Don Cowie's actual valuation as at Friday was proven to be £0, his value at 31 Dec 10 would have been "dropping fast". If the club accountant had any other detail, then I'm afraid that person is up for the high jump!
A Watford employee was asked in January about Cowies contractual situation as some thought his contract ran out in June 2011. The reply was that he had another 18 months to go before it expired, and there was nothing to worry about. I will not name the employee, he knows who he is, but it seems that the option was being looked at as a certainty Watford would have him until 2012.
So that person misled the club? How is that possible? Surely the club would know when a contract would be likely to expire?
Sorry, H not saying that he misled the club, but that was his understanding of the situation and he is in a position to have the correct information. It looks to me as if the club thought that there was a two way option, whereas it seems that the option was only for Cowie to say yes or no to.
Surely not until the legal eagles confirm who is correct! I'd like nothing better than the case be found in our favour, and Cardiff be told to hand over an appropriate fee - somewhere around £1.5M would be appropriate for an influential, current international midfielder.
did you know that the players contract expired? have you heard of the bosman ruling? how on earth are watford entitled to anything? you signed cowie for a nominal fee, and he became a free agent on july 1st, the date we signed him. muppet.
Well Swamp, you're probably right but certainly all the fans and indeed the management of the club thought the contract had an automatic 3rd year subject to Championship or better status and it only required to be ratified. It appears to be a cock-up but you never know maybe there is something in it. I can say with certainty though that Cowie was intent on going on a free (i.e. not signing a new contract) although I think even he thought next year rather than now! We weren't in a position to sell him in January and I would have expected us to try in this January coming if this last weeks events hadn't transpired.
It really is quite simple. If the option was automatically for a third year, and solely at Watford's discretion, he was under contract. If the option was Cowie's to take up, then he has chosen not to, and so was available on a Bosman. In between, there are shades of grey dependent on what exactly the terms of the option were. Therefore, you really should not be calling anyone a muppet.
Malky knew the situation and therefore came a poaching. I doubt we will get anything but if theres hope it's worth it. However if its going to cost us to pursue lets move on and bring in the next Cowie theres always a new hero on the way. Just ask Tommy Mooney and Luther Blissett back in the day. Onwards and Upwards and keep the faith.
I'm still ****ing furious, I've had to stay away for a few days just to calm down even slightly. He is still my favourite player, but that doesn't stop him and MM being money-grabbing c**ts. Both my dad and I agree that we think MM knew he would get a job offer from somewhere at the end of the season (having turned down Burnley already) and that he told his transfer targets (the free ones that is) like AT, and players lie cowie to hold off on negotiating contracts to see where he went. Bloody slimy if it's true but there's no proof, so I just have to go one fuming.
Sorry, I forgot that cardiff fans regularly visit here - should have written it in plainer, simpler English for those whose single digit reading age limits their ability to research and understand. I'll do that next time time just so that you can avoid the cringingly embarrassing, childish, gut reaction response.
what a complete and utter idiot you are. how are you entitled to any money? he's 29, you paid a nominal fee for him, i highly doubt we would have signed him knowing that we could later be stung by a transfer fee, MM would have known the contractual situation, you on the other hand are just speculating without any common sense or knowledge of whats going on. i wont stoop as low as you have and attack you for being english for whatever reason but still, you're a muppet.
I just hope they're looking and not accepting it if they are sure there is something not quite right!
You are really bringing down the boards now.... insults are really not going to get you anywhere.... thank you
