I can understand a 'have a go hero' freezing, but surely this guy was a trained armed police officer ?

I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of this story because i don't and they certainly don't need a president calling someone a coward, if that is what happened.

However, if i'm paid as an armed guard i would not be complacent in thinking that i might not have to give my life at some point in time.

If you are there to protect the kids and get chance to stop the assailant then you should selflessly attempt to do so.

Natural instinct should kick in as a middle aged guy as a natural guardian. Whether that makes him a coward not to do so, well the president wasn't there to assess the situation.

If that's true it may make me think a bit differently.

If that's the case then he'll deserve the stick he gets. Trump shouldn't be publicly calling him out though.

Especially as he’s a devout coward himself who so assiduously dodged any kind of military service.

Well do you mean regarding this or generally speaking? As I don't tend to give a **** about him and politics in general.

    Also I didn't say he couldn't, I said he shouldn't have.

I'm glad he did. He doesn't need to toe the line like spineless Obama just to please the vegans and the wannabe politicians.

Unless things have changed police training is about self preservation.

This is why if there is a fight as a cop you call it in and wait for back up

....tend to agree with you ... which is a bit of a phenomena in it's own right <whistle> ... wouldn't count myself as the bravest soul ... would usuallly weigh up the odds .. but as a father of 3 girls it's things like this that you worry about as they grow up... I don't think I could just have stood by, even without a gun ... but if I'd got a gun and been trained in how to use it, I'd like to think my thoughts would have been saving the kids first and foremost, irrespective of concerns about myself ... I'd want somebody else to do that for my kids <ok>

I heard on the radio today how a pistol has an effective capability of 25 yards or so for someone trained in how to use the weapon properly, but to have maximum effectiveness you need to be around 10-15 yards from the target to have a really effective response.

Set that against someone using an assault rifle spraying hundreds of bullets a minute.

Its a ****ing no brainer. I guess thats why they tell police units to wait for back-up.

I wasn't there. I can't and won't pre-judge the circumstances of that guys situation, where he was at the time, the logistics of the situation, etc.

But to call him out as a coward is utterly irresponsible and reprehensible. And for his president to do so represents a new new low I thought was beyond even Trump.

  18. There's nothing in that statement to disagree with - and you are talking about the President of the United States of America <doh> It's beyond ridiculous.

I lived there for 4 years so I know how flaky Americans can be, they’ll pick up and run off with the latest idea just like that.

But I was overcome with a real sense of surrealism when that buffoon was elected. I just could not believe that so many people couldn’t see through him. See what a liar and charlatan he is. How dangerous his child like mentality can be. His blindingly obvious narcissism.
