However I'd rather win games in the championship than bring on a cardiac in the prem
It's ****e mate but it's reality. Winning a league against lesser clubs is like if we win the championship. We've done it a few times and it's enjoyable but it's a means to an end and we have never treat it as a trophy as such.
We never would. To be a champion you have to beat the best. It likely won't ever happen but imagine not having the chance to try. Not having the opportunity.
We'd have to officially accept being less than an also ran forever. You just can't say that's worth the effort.
I've often said we are a big club because of Newcastle. The 2 clubs together, the rivalry makes us what we are, it makes the rest of the league count us, in the way your Boltons, your Stoke, they can be stable, can be good clubs but will never be anything major.
Be all end all, if that was ALL we had, we'd be nothing. We may as well play the Toon 38 times a year for bragging rights.
Premier League 2 has been mooted. What a crock of **** would still be second tier and still nobody outside the league would give 2 ****s about it.
Does anyone talk about Leeds? Wednesday? Forest? Do they **** and these are incredible clubs with history, fans, of major importance.
We all need the big clubs to be noticed, there's no escaping that reality. Folk out of England, they only know Sunderland as they've seen us in the PL against the big lads. Time away and you aren't missed, you become basically nothing. We've got a years grace then we just get back up or we become nothing. That's how harsh commercialism has hit the game.
