A whopping 2,601 Charlton fans will be at Priestfield on Saturday afternoon.

2,600 in the Meccano Stand away end, and one sitting on his booster seat in the home end [ @baraettmattesvensson <whistle>]

It was in this fixture last season that the Charlton support finally turned on Russell Slade and his unique brand of 'Total Football'. The player's tunnel being right by the away end, lets hope our players perform a lot better than they did last night for their own sakes.

No excuses here, it must 3 points.

I see this game as a test of character of the players and manager. We've just been given a good hiding, and will we recover? We know we have some decent players, but what about their collective guts and determination? Their was an air of confidence developing at Charlton, which may have been proved to be fragile. Doubts about Solly's fitness continue, it appears to have been a mistake to play him yesterday, and if he hasn't recovered he shouldn't play on Saturday. A good win and the confidence will return, anything else will not bode well for any hopes of a promotion season.

Really Charlton should be looking to win our next three league games; Gillingham, Bury and Walsall. If we achieve that we will have a handsome haul of 24 points from our first 10 games - well within targets for automatic promotion.
But that's when the games will begin to get more difficult. Charlton still have to play seven of the other current top 10 teams, most of those games must come between early October and mid December.
If however we don't do very well in our next three matches, if confidence has been knocked or minor injuries are beginning to affect the form of some players, then the run in to Christmas could be a very difficult time. It will probably define the remainder of our season.

Before the season kicked off I was hoping for (no, actually I was insisting on) 20 points from our first 10 matches. But the situation is of course more complex than just the bare numbers. Momentum, confidence and luck are all important factors.

Conceding goals is also a worry. Charlton have conceded ten in the league, despite winning five games and playing mostly moderate opposition. We have let in more than any other team above 12th place, albeit we are the fourth highest scorers in those same places.
(Peterborough, Bradford and Rotherham have outscored us so far).

And does anybody seriously believe what KR told us a few weeks ago, that Charlton would spend big money in January on a quality striker IF we were in the promotion mix after Christmas?

These next three 'winnable' matches may turn out to be just as vital to our final position this season as any games we play in the Spring of 2018.
We have to bag every point we can while the going is still relatively good.

You need to sort your wardbrobe out before Saturday or you'll get mistaken for a local.<party>
 
Although history should count for nothing, we normally struggle in caravan land.

1-1 and the once a year day trippers fueled on beer get restless.
 
Strange comments from Gills manager Ady Pennock.

He said that Gills will have players in their side on Saturday earning £400 a week, and players on their bench on £200 a week.

@brb - are the Pikeys aware there is a National Minimun Wage these days ?

The supporters want AP sacked so i shouldn't worry too much about what the players are paid, hopefully you guys will nail his exit on Saturday <laugh>
