If we only get one of him or Defoe think I would rather have a young guy with promise than one with a proven record but has been picking up injuries of late and only getting slower. We will find out soon enough.
Rob Tanner thinks we may still go in for Jermain Defoe even if we sign Kramaric Kramaric will cost 9M, Defoe 6M and if we want Shaun Maloney he will cost around 1.5M I would take all 3 along with a left back and centre half
We're buying Defoe!? Just thought it was one of them loans, in the MLS off-season... That's a completely different question. Would NOT spend £6m on him!!
Your mad if you pay 6 million for defoe , we keep getting linked and at that price I really hope we don't bother
Defoe is guaranteed goals. If he signs for 6M, scores the goals to keep us up then thats 6M very well spent With Kramaric wanting a relegation release clause then I would only let Chris Wood go out on loan. We all know Wood is more then capable of scoring goals in the championship so might aswell loan him out and then sell him in the summer if we stay up, if he bangs in a load of goals he will bump up his price tag anyway
He can't come to us via a loan from Chelsea under Premier League rules - can't buy and loan out a player in the same transfer window in the PL - he could be loaned abroad - but apparently Chelsea are reluctant to agree terms to the effect that he is guaranteed to rejoin Chelsea after such a loan - and that sticking point is what has, apparently, put us back in the frame ...
He would only sign for Chelsea if they guaranteed him that he would be in their first team next season, they said they can't promise anything so he's about to sign for us
I tend to agree with Proud ..... 6m for a proven goalscorer at this level (and for England) is peanuts. If his goals helped keep us up, that in itself would be well worth the money. The only downside (apart from no resale value) would be how long it would take him to get up to speed. we dont have a month to waste. mind you a 80% fit Defoe would still put the ball in the net when given the chance.
Taking on Defoe isn't really a risk (providing he gets fit quickly) but I think at that price we can do better for the long term as well as the next 5 months. A loan would be so much better.
1 goal in his last 19 Premier League appearances yet Defoe is still 'guaranteed goals'? I wouldn't be so sure. Good option on loan but a very QPR/Harry type panic-buy on a permanent.
Bit harsh to judge the lad on 19 games of his career. Agree a loan would be best but not an toon with Toronto
It is the most recent 19 games of his career though, so I think it is quite telling. Especially when he's not going to be getting better, if anything he will have lost sharpness/fitness/speed since then and will continue to do so.
Yeah I hear what you are saying. His best days are behind him etc It would a concern how long it would take him to get upto speed of the premier league.
O.k I´m lost. We are willing to pay 9m for him, possibly going up as much as 12m. O.k no problem there he´s got a rep & knows where the goal is. But my confusion starts with the clause. IF we go down he can leave but is there a minimum price in the contract that will activate the clause & if so how much ? We are willing to pay 9m for 1/2 a season, it must be atleast 9m that activates that clause then surely.
I suspect the agreement will be that he will be allowed to leave either for a prescribed amount or on loan with a view to a permanent move etc ... it's very much a case of 'prove your worth' ...
