Can’t say I agree with much of that, hindsight is a wonderful tool, professional medical advisors advice was in the main taken and enforced, the economy also had to be accounted for.Mistakes
1: not preventing flights and boats coming into the UK from infected countries.
2. Not starting the first lockdown early enough - and flights are STILL coming into the country unchecked.
3. Building the nightingale hospitals at considerable expense, without realising, or ignoring that we can’t possibly staff them
4. Failing to invest in testing facilities, meaning we don’t actually know who has the virus and who doesn’t. Even now, you aren’t allowed to get a test until you exhibit symptoms - by the time that happens you could have been contagious for over a week - and some people NEVER develop symptoms. God knows how many people are infected because of this.
5. locking down the pubs and restaurants (responsible for 5% of the spread), whilst schools and other educational establishments (responsible for 40% of the spread) are kept open.
6. With reference to point 4 above, keeping the country in a 9 month cycle of partial lockdown and halfway house restrictions, costing the country far more than investment in an appropriately scaled testing services.
7. FINALLY after 9 months of slow death to the economy and 70k deaths, another full-on lockdown, which could have been avoided if we had proper testing.
8. Red tape and ‘computer says no’ automated rules are preventing dentists and other health practitioner volunteers from assisting with the vaccination programme - despite a desperate need for them.
Sure it’s a world pandemic, but this governments response has been an utter fiasco. Thank God they weren’t in charge back in 1939.
IMO, no help or constructive advice was ever given by opposition parties especially the shadow party (labour) who’ve been totally and completely useless..
Boris, Hancock & co have made mistakes, but on the whole have had no choice in most of their decisions keeping in mind health and economy..
The announcement of the latest lockdown which IMO should be a very strict one should then allow those that need the vaccine most, receives it within this period. hopefully we can then get back to normality.
I thank god it is the current government in charge especially with Brexit in tow.. blimey it doesn’t bare thinking about with the other shower in charge!!
