Celecoxib i believe has a better tolerability record than diclofenac, even though you require a higher dosage.

yeah, my grandad has arthritis and was meant to take some medication only when the arthritis was bad. Unfortunately, he's old and also not well educated so at some point he was taking them every day i think because of the arthritis pain, especially the humidity in HK which brings it out. Unfortunately, it's badly damaged his liver (think it was this rather than kidney) so he has to be super careful about what he eats now. not much meat, vegetables mainly and very bland food.

Sorry to read that mate about your grandad. Yeah doctors will write 'when required' or something like that. Problem is that then leaves it open to different intepretations, depending on the patient. The only way it can get picked up then is if your doctor notices it when signing off the repeat prescriptions. Not blaming the doctors btw, it's some how educating people the possible long term side effects of drugs, and getting a balance before it goes wrong, as we read on here, at times it does. Psychologically it's not helped when we see supermarkets shelves well stock with drugs as if they are selling sweeties, it can give out the wrong message.
