Like I said earlier, not too many people if any, did take the virus seriously at the start. It had never occurred in our lifetime before, we really didn't know what to do, none of us did.
It's a bit like if a meteor comes to hit the Earth, are we prepared, would we know what to do. No, we wouldn't have a clue, no one in the world would. It would just occur and we'd all be gone. Should I blame Boris for that too.
Only they patently did have a plan, do next to **** all and wait for ‘herd immunity’.
What Cummings said yesterday merely reinforced what was obvious imo. In Feb last year he gave his infamous ‘superman’ speech that many appear to have forgotten.

After that he went on This Morning and said in early March that the best thing might to be to ‘let the virus rip’ which again correlates with what was said yesterday. At that point it was obvious that shutting down the economy wasn’t on the agenda. It was widely reported at the time, that it was only when presented with the modelling from Oxford that put the ‘do nothing’ strategy as costing circa 500k lives in the first wave, that the direction changed.
If what Cummings said was true, and that planning literally only started on the 19th, that fact alone makes the man unfit for office imo.

There was supposed to be a pandemic plan in place though.
Whether that was written up by senior civil servants or govt ministers. It simply didn't happen.
Boris opted for 'herd immunity' once he realised it was out of control, before somebody told him that could kill half a million people.
With hindsight we'd all make the correct decisions,you should just be glad I wasn't in charge as I would've done nothing. (which would've been the correct decision of course)

Anyway, where was the opposition in all this, which is something else I touched on, it shouldn't be left to a ruling government party to deal with, we need an independent medical body, preferably a world wide one, that rules on such situations, made up of the worlds most intelligent people.
We've learned nothing, other than how to point fingers, how to play politics with people's lives. If they didn't lose a love one, all people are interested in is what side of the political fence they sit. That's why politics needs to be taken out of it.

Well clearly I was naive to trust this Govt having a plan.

So it's not something that came 'out of the dark ages' or only happens in history books. The UK has had direct experience of dealing with outbreaks in the past. "The National Risk Register of Civil Emergencies (NRR) identifies that emerging infectious diseases could also cause large numbers of people to become ill. The UK has experience of managing cases of high consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs) and in recent years has managed confirmed cases of Lassa fever, Ebola, MERS and monkeypox."
The wider world has also dealt with Ebola, HIV, SARS, Avian Flu etc, so pandemic planning is not the unknown quantity as you're trying to suggest.

It's all well and good with hindsight, googling links and copying and pasting stuff to me now, but you were useless, you should have given me this information back in March 2020! Point being is that it's for the Govt to know and implement this stuff.
I had files full of action plans, contingency plans and disaster plans all round my office when I was a manager at Royal Mail. As far as I could tell, every one of them would have been worse than ****ing useless in a crisis, but they ticked the appropriate boxes to show we were prepared. Which we never were, when anything went wrong, ever.
Only useful thing about any of those plans, come to think of it, was the list of phone numbers at the back telling you who to call when it came on top, just before the bloke responsible went off sick with stress. Or Covid. Or whatever.
I think Corbyn knew about it, but he forgot to tell Starmer, who then couldn't pass on the info to Boris. Ahhhhhh unless Starmer did know, and hid it from Boris. Good theory that bro, i like your thinking.
