It is clearly evident. Every country that went into lockdown and closed its borders immediately had much lower infections and death rates.

Neither nor Japan and Sweden enforced lockdowns. Look at their death rates.

In any event, that isn't the point I, and the likes of Peter Hitchins make. Of course, if you lock away your population, you are likely to see a lower rate for all transmittable viruses, just as you will inevitably see a massive rise (or spike) when the population mingles. That's what viruses do.

Firstly, you are never going to stop a virus from spreading, that's why a lockdown is pointless. You cannot keep running away from it. That's why we have an immunity system. Secondly, the cost to society in the number of increased deaths from other (more dangerous) conditions, the catastrophic effect on mental health and the economy, and the extra misery and death that will follow from those factors, make a lockdown a bad idea.

What we should have done is to identify and isolate the vulnerable and put them in lockdown. It makes absolutely no sense to lockdown those who are either unaffected by the virus or who are naturally immune to it. Especially bearing in mind the adverse consequences we are all going to suffer as a result of this madness.

I'm not really sure what your point is bro?

I know Sweden didn't follow lockdown, but you are being evasive to what actually occurred or actually don't know and are blowing bubbles. I had family out in Sweden, the very week we were put in lockdown.

There were some lockdown measures out in Sweden, yes, there really was, but the media forgot to inform you, because they were more light touch measures, also Sweden paid the penalty for that later, when it spiked. Which in turn potentially could have caused problems for the UK, because we had citizens travelling freely back from those locations, without checks. Well before we considered any quaratine for those travellers.

All people are being asked to do now is wear a mask, again I'm not seeing what the problem is with that request. If you don't want to wear one, then don't but I just hope non mask wearers keep away from me.

It's people like you, Fosse, me and Archers that should be most concerned with this virus, because it's us that it's more likely to kill. I've done a pretty good job of playing it safe the last 4 months. If you don't want to play it safe, then don't, but don't spread scaremongering conspiracy theories, from nut jobs who happen to make some video on the internet, and go by the name of doctor.

Anyone got a basic simple rundown off hiags points?

I get he don't agree with wearing a mask, cos he thinks covid is a hoax.

He's on a windup, I don't even think he believes half the bolloxs he writes.

I think he makes some valid points, but makes them all in the wrong way, and adds Aberdude style stuff to it, which just discredits it straight away.

He seems to forget, no one is even forcing him to wear a mask, it just means he will have to order all his stuff online, and when he goes out for food and drink, he will have to sit outside and hope it's table service or someone can go up for him (or via an app).

Yeah he's going to be pretty much knackered for public transport and travelling abroad, but hey what price freedom.

the mask thing should have been done from the start, imo..

i don't like wearing them, but it is what it is.

I agree with you. It's all about consistency and sending out a clear message. If it had been done from the the beginning, then possibly people would have been easier to persuade into that way of thinking (wear a mask). After all we would have seen examples at the time, of many other countries applying the same rules. To introduce them at this late stage is not good psychology, so is bound to get a negative reaction from some people - I get it, even if I don't agree with them. I said from the beginning of this pandemic, when social distancing came in, middle aged men are the fooking worse, it's the big man ape attitude, problem is they are the ones most likely to die from it, fooking idiots.

Yeah it should have been.

And despite Kipper's bleatings, the evidence is that masks help to reduce transmission rates. He even posted some links that confirmed that when he was trying to claim they didn't, the stoopid **** <laugh>

And the evidence is that those countries that locked down and wore mask early in the pandemic, suffered vastly less numbers of deaths.

The dumb **** even cited Sweden as being a COVID success story, when they’ve got the 5th highest deaths per million rate on the planet.

He also cited Japan, a country where wearing masks is pretty ****ing standard, and they did that from the off.

I saw that. He hasn't got a ****ing clue.

Without bleating on about Thailand again, much, i looked at the way they handled it, and their rate (which is really low), i watched the bairn going through this everyday..Mind she had a good variety of masks<laugh>.

Population similar to the uk, and around a 100 deaths....

See hiag is right, lockdown and masks don't work at all.

Brb has already made the point I was going to about Sweden paying the price later but let's move on from that to your wider point.

Do you think we can effectively lockdown one section of society? I personally couldn't see it as a workable solution.

I also think that if we had locked down early enough, we could've been out of it by April. The effect on the economy, mental health, treatment of other serious illnesses, has all come about because our lockdown had to be longer because we didn't bother testing at the start coupled with the fact we were too slow to put a lockdown and quarantine into force to begin with. That is literally the root cause of why we are still in this mess.

I do agree though that it's bloody difficult to stop a virus from spreading but where we disagree is that you can mitigate it. Like saying there was no way we could prevent HIV from spreading... of course there is. And in many ways the approach was similar in principle to reducing the spread of this virus.

Isn't there measures and controls to stop everything spreading?

So that's a yes then?

Yes.

I can't see how HIAG can have it both ways. On the one hand he's saying it's not a serious virus and we shouldn't worry about it. On the other hand he's saying we can't contain it. The thinking behind it not being containable is in the past how killer viruses have spread globally including second spikes that have killed millions.

hiag takes it both ways tho.....

i don't like wearing them, but it is what it is.

I have been wearing a mask since the outbreak as I figured they would be beneficial to me and my family.

i do hope those that think their freedom is infringed by being asked to wear a mask don’t ever need to be asked to wear a ventilator.
