Now then, sorry if I'm late to the party on this and it's already been done, but not once in that narrative, as I read it anyway, does she mention her, Dom and the kid making the decision to go up north together. It's as if, er, perish the thought, she didn't think they would do (and by implication him as well) and that she'd tell the story as if they were still in London all along.
Note too that at no time are both of them too incapacitated at the same time to have been even near not being capable of looking after the kid.
