I have over a lump of money which could get me a deposit on a house (it is my deposit) which I've had for a few years but been reluctant to spend as looking at moving career and might need the money to retrain.

So looking at it that way it won't sink me but it will drain me and looking for work if I do get released from my role could be the difficult bit.

Any lock down is going to hit us bad as naturally we're building - limited what we can do at home even when quoting works and invoices and payment applications (what I do a lot of) - from memory you're a QS or PM aren't you?

I left proper quantity surveying for main contractors a few years ago.

my brother in laws been laid off (contracting) for a bit until this blows over and the company can get back onto its feet (this is the thing with contracting and people who think its safe and steady). you can get laid off and get no notice. Unfortunately for him and my sister, they bought a house that they can barely afford so i'm expecting a call in a month or two to help out financially if he doesn't get his job back anytime soon.

Sheesh, I'll be eating those carrot chips at the back of the freezer, that seemed like a good idea when I bought them two years ago, before all this is out. With the Frey Bentos tinned steak and kidney pie in the larder that is so old that the rim is rusting. Probably kill off the Covid-19.

Me: What’s this I’m hearing about you Tory ****s not helping their customers by freezing mortgages in this time of despair for all?

Ex: It’s not true, only yesterday we announced that we are freeing up 5 billion to help our customers and that includes mortgages

Me: Cool, I’ll tell him to chase it up properly then...might be back in touch

as much as i like to believe that nev, i honestly believe, it will only affect a few people. at the end of the day, a lot of consumers in the UK will still go for the cheapest/best quality so unless competitors are offering the same, i do not think ****ty service will be affecting a huge amount of people imo

Most customers i came across as a checkout assistant were nice. saying that i was from a small town of about 10,000 and surrounding villages so i guess people were nicer and more friendly

Similar to one of my mates.

I visited his 2 week old child on Monday and he's just finished doing up his new house so he's basically spunked all his money. He works for British Airways as an engineer and he's been told to come in next week to see if he's one of the workforce to be laid off. He been told to stay at home atm.

Grim.
