Come on, mate. We could all be self-isolating for months. Try not to crack up entirely in week one.

Some things never change <laugh>

Merely making a point about why Italy is different situation to every other European country in terms of outbreak, only to have Stan want to bicker over every little part not relative to why Italy is different, waste of time W

Only someone with a stick up his arse would think he knows when someone else has a stick up his arse [HASHTAG]#speakingfromexperience[/HASHTAG] :bandit:

So, you DO have a stick up your arse? :emoticon-0138-think

I tend to have it up my arse from the hours of 9-16 and then it dislodges itself and I can take a joke.

Having lots of industry to convert if needed in a situation like this, has much to do with the economic model that created all of the consumer business that can be converted.

Not a perfect model, but this is at least one fortunate benefit.

Were you aware that the Soviet Union moved all of it’s heavy industry East of the Ural Mountains in 1941/2, all while massively increased production of tanks, aircraft, trucks etc.? Was that a triumph of capitalism too?

Shall we add the human misery into that equation m8. I noticed you kinda left that bit out
lets not forget the US was feeding their troops and sending them trucks

It's not the miracle you suggest, merely geography, Russia was so large and so populated.

No mention of the dead though, everything was taken but so many people were left behind in the path of the Germans, intentionally

and I wasn't even talking capitalism v socialism, that was Toby who got offended by the fact that capitalism has had one fortunate benefit at this time. That was all ffs

Yeah, I wasn't intending to sing the praises of Joe Stalin. Just questioning your assertion that only capitalism can facilitate a manufacturing industry.

Ah, the political lens.

I merely pointed out a fortunate benefit of the current economic model at a time when it is needed.

Having universal free healthcare and having wealthy people are not mutually exclusive. Have another tin of commie-lite mate and chill

"stolen wealth". Who are you Stalin? :bandit:

A mixed economy has been the backbone of western liberal democracies for over a century. Think this has shown how health (and possibly transport) should be state-run though. And I can't see how a state-run car manufacturer could not switch to making respirators as quickly as any private one. And they'd probably make less fuss than Elon Musk about doing it as well.

We sent a convoy to them as well, don't forget (though it was mainly destroyed by the Nazis). But mate, I distinctly remember you some years back, before you were enticed by the alt-right from your then pro-Russian haven, stating in huge, enormous capital letters (complete with several exclamation marks and emojis) that the Soviets won WWII whilst Britain and the US stood by in safety and watched. Was you in a different state then, or now?

I dont even want to get into this. I didnt start it, and I want out :D

I am centre left. I also believe that a political spectrum is essential. I want socialists pushing against capitalists, and capitalists pushing against socialists, because for it to go to one or the other extreme is NOT GOOD.

The best we've managed so far (because abject poverty is at its lowest ever) is capitalist markets that end up paying for socialist policies. That's pretty much how Finland actually pays for its socialist policies. If it were not so, there is no fookin way Finland could fund its massive government and and healthcare bureaucracy and pay for free education, free public transport and child care for single mothers and so on.

You need to create wealth to spread it m8 <ok>

Caveat: yes it's certainly not perfect and the human condition be it socialism or capitalism, is nepotism and corruption and that is not going to change any time soon, unfortunately but it's still worth trying to change it

anti corruption needs to become a culture, it will never work the way we are trying to address it now
