That's cos generally speaking drinkers are more social. Not saying all but that would generally ring true and stoners are more happy to sit in and blaze alone.

Alcohol is far more harmful too.

Yeah the stoner community has zero impact on sars cov death rates.......whilst swimming in village ponds has accounted for two duck deaths and one terrapin badly injured by drunken idiots.

toad aka Boris has refused to comment.

I saw this and thought, you either open up the pubs properly or you don't do it at all. It's like going to a football match but being told there will be no game on today, but you can watch the prematch entertainment, eat a pie and drink a coke.

Drinking is our culture, we've already been legislated against smoking in pubs, now they don't want us to drink alcohol in them either. I get that some income is better than none, but do I really want to pay £3 or whatever it is for a coke, nope.

There is enough shhite about 'government control' you either trust your population or you don't, if you don't then keep them closed until they do.
Speaking as a Newcastle supporter I think that would be a much more enjoyable day out.

I thought it was the opposite. Certain chains (not weatherspoons), that charge a fiver for a beer, outside of the City. Thus they then offer buy one get one free meals, knowing the revenue will come from the extra sale of drink, that comes with every meal sold. I think Marstons are one particular chain that operate like this.

The mark up on food is far bigger than on the ale.

The margin on the ale depends on who owns the pub. Tenanted pubs get ripped off by the venture capitalists who own the premises by insisting that most of the ales on offer are bought via them, and they take a mark up, leaving the tenants with buttons if they’re to compete with the free houses or chain pubs local to them.

And is it right the opposite is true in restaurants? That they make more on the alcohol (wine, spirits) than the food. Well not every time but proportionally?

Depends on the restaurant and what they’re trying to pass off as a £25-30 bottle of vino I suppose mate.

I believe soggy biscuit plays a massive role in who is granted a contract 20 years later. Worth that short term pain I guess.
