Yeah I don’t get quite how that has happened but it has amongst many it seems.Ye are known for that stiff upper lip as it were. The country's been through worse, though then there was a real enemy.
The political split down the middle and everything being filtered through it, same in the US, I think is a bigger danger than any coof virus in the mid to long term.
Even the views on the Coof are split along political lines it seems

I think a large part is, not just on coof, is that our media and institutions have unashamedly chosen political sides, and social media of course, where it's algorithms herd people into echo chambers
Yeah but the correlation between COVID deniers and the far right though? I don’t get it, but it’s defo a thing.Just think so many folk have become entrenched in their views now, that it's about being right rather than actually being right, if you get my drift ?
An incompetent Govt that have given mixed messages and sacked off scientific advice hasn't helped of course.
or to put it more succinctly, a complete lack of confidence in our governments which is why there is now a huge sway from one side to the other.Just think so many folk have become entrenched in their views now, that it's about being right rather than actually being right, if you get my drift ?

The last Tory majority was really surprising, and it was certainly caused by normally labour voters having no confidence in Labour
Now it seems those voters have no confidence in the Tory gov either.
What happens when the population at large has no faith in either? We're finding out now, slowly, but inexorably..

I said it ages ago on the old politics thread, but party politics is dead for me. The old idea of a top down govt calling the shots with blanket policies and an opposition sitting to oppose policies they don't like has lost all faith with the electorate. I see the future being much more devolved, with local councils and mayors having more of a say in what happens in their areas.
We're seeing some shoots of this with Andy Burnham v Tory Govt issue.
Seriously, one can go and look at conspiracy theorists on COVID and 5g and see, that at least half of them are left wing anti war anti capitalism types
You are right imo.
Party politics override the wishes of the constituents for MPs because the party is all.
But I dont know the answer to that problem
Instead of MP's being elected to Parliament, the Council Leader should be elected to represent their area in the HOC instead.
I wasn’t referring to the ones who are literally paid to shill for the right though or their paymasters. I meant your EDL type knuckle heads who’ve been prominent at the KBF marches against masks lol & are often complete deniers on SM. Might be the QAnon angle thinking about it.Deregulation is my best guess. The right wing don't want Govt calling the shots on anything, they want it all left to the market. That whips up the likes of Julia Hartley Brewer etc, but in turn that attracts the ultra right wing nutters who think their Govt's are planning to microchip them all.
No, by denier I mean denier, not those who are advocating different ways of dealing with the virus. Those who deny it’s an actual thing.Part of the problem is that term, that's the level of national discourse every western country has seemed to devolved into.
I've seen very good scientific reasons for taking a different approach, yet I also don't want people to die.
I guess if I broached any of those scientific arguments, one might be able to call me a covid denier or similar
I have seen both right wing and left wing nuts throw conspiracies around throughout all of this
Seriously, one can go and look at conspiracy theorists on COVID and 5g and see, that at least half of them are left wing anti war anti capitalism types
One needs a sufficient data set to get a good picture
Lastly, the media are the main ones fueling this "right wing believe this nonsense" "left wing believe this nonsense" stuff because the media have already chosen sides since about 2014, openly chosen sides
