Hopefully that is all it will be symptoms wise. It really is a strange virus and one that is far from being truly understood, especially in regards to severity in some and nothing in others. I suppose thats the nature of a virus though.

You can’t even spell the bloody variant properly, Vern.
Nobody is denying Covid or what we’re learning about the variants. Some of us simply believe that we are now overreacting in some quarters and that we continue to ignore the impact on the lives of others as a consequence of these measures.
The various covid enthusiasts on here rarely comment on those that have lost their jobs, or those denied urgent medical care, or the estimated 130k made homeless during this period, or the impact on the education of our young, or the increase in domestic violence or, if they do, it’s just a passing remark. I think these enthusiasts believe all of this to be acceptable collateral damage in the fight against covid.

Wooooah there Uber. I am only giving you a scientific basis for what's going on with the virus...( the Chris Witty role...and yes I am as nerdy as him, and like many scientists, pretty dyslexic).
It is up to the politicians to make the judgment calls on the effect on the socio-economic situation.
Only if you fully understand the situation can you make proper value judgments for yourself and your loved ones

It may come as quite a surprise, Vern, but many intelligent people can look at the same data and reach different conclusions.
Once again, nothing about those adversely impacted by the covid measures which you enthusiastically support.

I’m arguing that a number of the measures that continue to be taken are disproportionate to the risk. Quite different.
And infact on the whole I have not supported much of the things the government has done in response to Covid pandemic ( except as I have said many many times...the vaccine roll out, which has gone well)

Neither are particularly onerous ... what are we arguing about exactly

Businesses closing. People out of work. People made homeless. People denied life-saving medical diagnoses. Children denied proper education. Mental health. Domestic violence.

I personally have lost friends to the disease, some in my family have ongoing mental health problems, and all of us have financial problems, some through redundancies but all from ongoing loss of income and increasing prices in one way or another. We all have. My own families problems are all I can carry on my shoulders at the moment, to be honest
I do not agree with a lot of what the government has done, but some have been unavoidable. How could the NHS carry on with some of it services, when they were receiving hundreds of very sick people in through their doors every day. Every person and every country has been affected.
At the moment the government are doing very little (softee, softee catchee monkey), and I would assume that is good for your point of view.
I am STRONGLY in favour of vaccination, as it allows us to act as normal as we can. ...but that is the only thing I am really pressing for at the moment.

Just an update on COVID anecdotes.
Me and my wife caught covid in november and was pretty ill during the week i had it. Slept a whole day, sore throat, no appetite, muscle aches, loss of taste fever. It took around a week and a half to fully recover except for taste that went for longer. probs around the same for the wife.
This December, i know of 7 people who have caught covid (unsure of the variant but will assume omicron). 4 are vaccinated and 3 are not fully vaccinated. All seem pretty lucky as they have barely been ill and had the sniffles (as far as i am aware)

We're all trying to make the best decision we can for ourselves and our families, based on the information out there.
I think where some of us disagree with you is that we feel that we should now be treating Omicron like seasonal flu, which can take tens of thousands of vulnerable people each year as well.
Absolutely mate and I fully sympathise with what you and your wife have had to go through.
I have been wondering about Omicron and long covid, as I really want to avoid long covid.
I wonder whether the much reduced severity it carries means less chance of long covid too?

I agree we ought to treat it as seasonal flu, because if you get flu you do self-isolate (more by being hit by a barge pole, rather than design, probably).
The main problem with this bloody thing is the number of people who are asymptomatic ( plus the other end of the spectrum which is how many die, currently it is still more than seasonal flu, but that number will probably decline in the following winters)...and there lies one of the things that bugs my inner soul.
When I had it, I only tested because I was off to see my very very pregnant, not that I had any symptoms at all ...If I hadn't and I had given it to her 5 days before she gave birth, what havoc would I have created, what problem would I have caused.
I carry some repressed guilt/relief over that fact...and the fact that 4 months later Hubbie still has long Covid
Have we any info on why some suffer from long covid. A good friend of mine is just turning the corner with it but has suffered for months. Another bloke i know got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (forgive the spelling) only for it to be later diagnosed as long covid instead. Some really strange goings on.

You're more likely to get it if you are female, in your late 30s/early 40s, but there's wee kids with it and plenty of fellas so no idea.
My mrs has still got plenty of joint pain, over 18 months after having Covid....it's one of the last Long Covid symptoms she's suffering from, and I wish it would hurry up and get better, but they've no idea how long, if ever, it'll take to sort itself out.
On the basis of zero scientific knowledge but a long time working on the commercial side of auto immune medicines and hanging around specialist doctors it seems to me that long covid is an immune system issue, perhaps an overreaction to the original infection which throws things out of kilter. Difficult to predict who this would affect, as it doesn’t seem to be tied to a pre existing auto immune condition. I have heard of a few cases where vaccination has resulted in a rapid improvement in long covid symptoms (which also seem to be very varied), almost as if a reset button has been hit on the immune system. But I’m pretty sure this could simply be coincidence.
Although treating immunology conditions is incredibly lucrative, they really are very varied, from allergies, dermatitis and psoriasis to rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and lupus (the last one, except for the rash it usually comes with, can be quite similar to long covid), and we don’t know that much about them, certainly no definitive cures though some very good treatments. The immune system is an delicate thing and easy to bugger up, especially with modern living it seems.
