Course it does, this new variant is what, 2 weeks old? The research into long term effects is what...2 weeks old? Its a really tricky situation and people are best off taking it in my honest opinion, but those with a non normal imune system should have some proper evidence to see on effects caused by the vaccine.

Do you mean the Moderna jab is more potent, or that the triple combination of 2 AZs and 1 Moderna is potent?

Evidence from the US shows that the Moderna jab is more effective than all others, including (by a little bit) Pfizer and that’s what I meant.

There was also an assumption that the AZ/AZ/Moderna mix would be good because of the different ways these vaccines work, hopefully complimenting each other. But now we hear that AZ is essentially useless in stopping you getting omicron, though I hope it contributes to lessening the symptoms.

We will all be getting 4th dose next March/April.

Interesting hearing about the Moderna reactions. My father had his booster (Moderna) and had a reaction which went on for a week or so. When I went for my booster this week I was offered Moderna, commented on my fathers reaction and asked if there was any other option. I was offered Pfizer and had that. All well, no reactions other than small ache at injection area. I find it interesting that there seems to be a big push on the Moderna at this booster stage, maybe it’s as Sb says that they believe the science on AZ/AZ/Moderna cocktail.

I don’t have a big issue with those that don’t wish to be vaccinated as long as they are prepared to take/accept the risk to themselves and their families and friends; and also accept that it is only fair that they cannot share the same busy places as others - as you could be putting an unknown person at risk of serious illness or possible death.

As we can't possibly know of any long term side effects from any of the vaccines if we all eventually get a jab of all of them then we might never be able to pin down the one that's not so good for us

Genuine question, why should an unvacinated person not share a same busy place as a vacinated person? Both can catch the virus and both can spread the virus.

The theory is... the unvaccinated person will get a worse disease, will be ill-er and at more risk of hospitalisation and death.

Also...and more pertinent to your question, unvaccinated people will have a higher viral lode and will be infectious for longer ....the antibodies and lymphocytes in your system will dampen down the viral infection. The unvaccinated person can spread virus further and for longer


The last thing is...do you remember that at the start we were talking about a "secondary " problem called cytokine storm, when the immune over reacted about 1- 2 weeks after the infection. This is not happening so much, and very rarely in vaccinated people...as their immune system has already been primed...and doesn't get into that hyperexcitable state.

Plus, we had bought a lot of Moderna stuff and we couldn’t waste it…….

…..we have cancelled (in September) a contract for 16 million doses of a new vaccine made by Valneva (a French/US company) in Livingston, Scotland. The contract included versions adapted for new variants. It’s not been approved yet, but the U.K. now offers a fast track for regulatory approval and we would have been first in the queue for delivery, straight from the factory. Now, if we want it, we will have to renegotiate. Of course, it could be that the new variant ruins all of Valneva’s trials and data. I’m guessing the contract was cancelled because the government thought we had already got enough vaccine (indeed, in terms of doses we have over ordered wildly) and were on top of the virus. Hubris?

Presumably we are going by if you are ill you shouldn't go out whatsoever spreading germs as thats selfish of anyone.

If you are assymptomatic then you wont know and vaccinated and unvaccinated could be passing covid to everyone as assymptomatics in which case maybe there should be mandatory.

Asymptomatic or not, if you have Covid and are not vaccinated you will be spreading the virus in higher quantities and for longer than if you are vaccinated, as your internal immune system is damping down the viral lode and the amount that is in your breathe/spit etc. You are more infectious!

Yes but if you have covid and know it (or have the sniffles) you shouldnt be going out and about anyway vaccinated or not.

I believe the argument is for unvaccinated people not hanging out in busy places in case they have it.

My point is if you are ill you shouldn't be going out anyway (not always possible if you need to work) and if you have covid and are very ill you probably wouldnt be able to go out at all.

So really it should only positive assymptomatic people who will be infecting people as they are the ones going out without knowing they are ill and hanging out

So that could be possibly 40 % of the people with Covid. So if we have 50,000 positives a day....that is 20,000 a day, wandering around oblivious

Yes but the assymptomatic people will be made up of vaccinated and non vaccinated people. If anything there is probably a hogher chance that the vaccinated are more assymptomatic (with lower loads but covid positive nonetheless) as they are not as affected by covid as an unvaccinated person.
