No, I am not saying the Irish invented the AZ vaccine. I am saying, one of the leading scientists who helped develop the AZ vaccine was Irish. It is a British led developed vaccine, developed in a British University by a team of leading scientists who were working with a British-Swedish Pharmaceutical company. Britain invested £65m in the development. The EU invested 330m euros to ensure their contractual obligations were met. The vaccine is being manufactured in the UK and and also in the EU.

Yes, the UK roll out has been a success, I acknowledge that. I know a lot of countries on the Continent are starting further lock downs. However, the supply of vaccines is about to increase dramatically in the next 3 months so there is great hope in other countries too that they can also get some degree of normality back, maybe by late-Summer. I think the majority of the EU will be vaccinated by July. I also think relations between London and Brussels are so toxic that I can't see any potential offer of vaccines being accepted. Maybe I am wrong, but my own opinion is, it just won't happen.

I have just heard that France and Germany are turning to Russia for vaccines. Good luck with that one. You may be back discussing more than a few blood clots ( which by the way is serious if someone gets them).

Not just France and Germany. The EMA are in the process of deciding whether the sputnik vaccine gets authorised for the whole EU. I know Mexico and especially Argentina have bought millions of doses from Russia. I haven't heard of any issues so far. Maybe Stan or Beth can inform us whether it's any good or not?

There are no issues because no one is alive to complain. :emoticon-0102-bigsm Probably best for Beth and Sb to give us the lowdown on this.
 
We are also receiving a bunch of AZ's from Mr Biden. I'm not sure but I believe that the Americans hare not yet approved Astra Zeneca for their own use yet though \i could be wrong

Given the shambolic roll out in Canada, I do not foresee myself getting a vaccine - any vaccine - before midsummer regardless of what Mr Trudeau says.

Macron on TV now making an announcement. Praising the health workers and all those in hospitals for all they are doing, but indicating that things are getting worse, due to the British variant. Restrictions continue until 2nd May...19h curfew across the whole of France, and not allowed to go further than 10km from home, and work from home if you can. Easter celebrations are cancelled...please don't go and gather with families. Changing school holidays to include the next two weeks, and schools shut for next 3 weeks (Easter holidays were due to start mid-April.)

I listened to Macron tonight and I must mix politics with this because it is so important.
What an utter utter muppet. Actually he is worse than that.
He blamed everyone bar his idiotic self. U.K. variant ( yeah that came via France) vaccines... sly dig at U.K. but AZ is okay now and you can get from the local pharmacies... if it’s there? But if not blame the U.K.
The stadium in Paris which will vaccinate the locals isn’t even ready and won’t be for 1-2 weeks. The Drs open 7 days a week but sadly most open only 6 days.
Well done to the Sky reporter who fact checked this. No wonder just about everyone on Twitter and other social media (plus my French friends) thinks that he is a useless @@@@. He may be president of the EU one day if it’s still there.
PS not to mention they still only count deaths in hospitals and care homes. Just wait until the truth comes out.

It’s commonly known as the British variant. We called it the Kent variant. Not everything has to be about this country.

When did we ever call it the French variant when it first came here from France and Italy? Never it was just Covid.
However I agree we do call them variants but Emperor Macron basically said tonight that their problems are down to our variant... what a load of Crap. Frances problems are to do with Macron and his idiotic handling of this. But don’t take my word for it just read what the French are saying.

Again though, if he or anyone started calling it the French or Italian variant no one would have a clue what they were on about as that’s not what it’s called.

It’s not like he chose to call it the China Virus. That could have been argued to be xenophobic.
