People can compare stats with other countries or choose not to, either way, this country has handled the pandemic appallingly, many decisions resulting in deaths. They do seem to have pulled their finger out regarding vaccination and full credit for doing so. Unfortunately the number people will always remember is that of the lost souls to this awful disease. I truly am shocked that certain members of the cabinet still have a job.
Sadly, I’m not sure you are right on that Bob. Objectively the worst performing largish country in managing the pandemic, as the death toll and death rates show, to say nothing of the economic side, this may well be eclipsed in storytelling/propaganda terms by the vaccine roll out, particularly if it is turned into an ‘us v them’ thing with the EU. It’s the way populists work, ignore failure, find external and internal enemies to demonise, take all the credit deserved or not. People tend to remember the last thing they’re told.

So poor and late decision making, clearly dodgy on occasion ‘expert’ advice and an element of the population who were never going to follow rules and the resulting deaths will be overshadowed by jabs. They’ve already got everyone praising the rollout, the fix is in. If vaccine supplies run short it will be the evil EUs fault. If infection rates and hospitalisations don’t fall fast it will be because of people who don’t follow the rules. Johnson is the hero of the hour, Gove told us we wouldn’t have a vaccine roll out without his leadership this very morning.

Reading that, I think you're right mate

I am sure Stan is right.
The only clever thing Boris has done is not allow the vaccine role out be outsourced to Serco

I wonder if he will also be remembered for the break up of the Union.. or will we southerers take that as another triumph.

Today's trip to Scotland has not helped..
Even if it is a case of somewhat double standards from the SNP

It’s not the rollout, but I have to say the unit lead by Bingham, who I had down as a crony, has done very well at identifying the most likely to succeed vaccines and getting contracts in place for them. Bingham is of course a crony, but by some fluke a competent one.

There I go, contributing to the new reality storytelling effort.......must beware!

It may not have been, but there were plenty of warnings before Christmas (even from Captain Hindsight) and the NHS and plenty of stuff on the news. I remember it was the time when the new variant was here and cases were on an alarming rise. We spoke as a family and thought common sense was to give Christmas a miss and when all this crap is over celebrate then... however I do understand how some people feel.
What bugs me is there is plenty of blame going on but while we are supposed to be in Lockdown we have seen 400 people at a Jewish wedding/ 1200 people at a rave/300+ at a house party in Kensington/150 in some northern social club and countless more that I keep reading about.
It is the sole responsibility of the individual to abide by rules but most of all, use common sense. Our large death rate is due to many factors and many people ignoring guidelines.

I suspect obesity which is prevalent in the UK will at least be a contributing factor

Bloody hell I thought this was the politics thread!
I think if anyone is remembered for the break up it will be the Kranky woman. It won't happen anyway.
Anyway I will let you all carry on with a government bitchfest.

No the government made them fat and also made all those people ethnic... not to mention old and all those with underlining health problems. Still all those breaking the lockdown rules can blame the government as well, because Captain Hindsight and his army of droids says there are 'mixed messages'.
