I was going to give you the last word but have to thank you for the nickname.

No one is denying that a lot of people have acted irresponsibly in recent weeks after generally being incredibly disciplined during the first weeks/months of lockdown. That you constantly bury your head in the sand over the government’s impact on people’s behaviour, let alone their utterly terrible decision-making in itself, completely undermines any argument you might have. Still though, the main thing is apparently that Big Brave Boris saves Christmas. Good thing they announced that win in good time.

I have to say some of the shops I visited last week made feel claustrophobic, narrow aisles, little distancing and people shoving their way through. I left a couple barely seconds after entering as they really didn't look safe and quite a few were not wearing masks or had them under their chins.

My missus works in Debenhams and did a full week last week, they control numbers entering and leaving but she said the last half hour each day was a free for all trying to get checked out with till queues going round the store. She's not doing the extra hours this week as she's had enough, hopefully she's avoided the worst of it...

I think it could be less broad for sure. If someone is likely to die in the next year, just throwing an arbitrary timescale out there, it’s still awful they have that year robbed from them but I think it would be a fairer benchmark for the seriousness of the disease.

It’s just shorthand for:
Diabetes 1 or 2
Heart disease
Cancer
Obesity
COPD
Autoimmune conditions
Chronic kidney disease
Etc etc
None of which will necessarily kill you.

Ivermectin is used in humans (and dogs) to control parasites. The doses used by this chap have not been properly tested in humans. But his data should certainly be properly reviewed quickly. I wouldn’t take it until then, it has some potentially nasty side effects for the nervous system, but all drugs have some risks.

His arguments about treatment in his hospital and being tired make no sense, he is free to prescribe whatever he wants as a licensed doctor, especially as an ITU specialist. He can prescribe this drug to every single patient he has and ‘cure’ them.

Peru, one of the worst hit countries from COVID, withdrew its approval for use of Ivermectin against COVID in October. Presumably because it wasn’t working - it’s very cheap and easily available, so cost/supply would not be the issue.

Can add to this.

We got some ex battery chickens during lockdown for the fun...and it is tremendous fun. They came with added intestinal worms..they mostly do.
Do we gave them ivermectin...it works well but you have to have 8-10 days worth of egg (and meat) withdrawal after dosing them as it is of unknown effect in humans.

So I do not think it is a wise action to take it

Well if they were going to be consistent, after putting so much of the country into Tier 3, they really should. They've stopped saying that they're 'following the science' though, haven't they?

I think it’s largely too late. It was a terrible error, driven obviously by generating good PR for a change, to make the grand announcement about the Xmas break. Now they’re backtracking from it, saying people should be careful etc, to distance themselves sufficiently in the highly likely event it drives a major spike in January without directly delivering the command that you can’t have a relatively normal Christmas Day.

Plus Starmer has said it should be reviewed which means he hates honest working Christian folk and only the Tories are fighting for you to spend time with your family or something.

They've made it hard for themselves.

I don't see why it has to 5 days, what are people doing on the 23rd and 27th? I'd cut it to just Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Even that presents risk.

I am slightly torn because cases are low where I live and I'm desperate for a bit of family contact.
