Well after watching the brief it seems we are ****ed. A proper lockdown is what's needed to arrest the escalation, as its clear when measures fall short of this a lot of people just ignore them. But what damage another full lockdown? There really doesn't seem to be a decent answer. I just wish people would start taking it seriously again.

I think a start would have been a functional test and trace system. We got told test test test months and months ago.

I’m old enough to remember Jenny Harries saying it wasn’t necessary for countries like us when we were being shown up as miles behind the rest of Western Europe. Wonder what she’s up to now.

Another lockdown won't make the virus go away though, it will just delay its spread, as the first one did. The solution, until a vaccine is found, is a proper system of testing and tracing.

I suppose it just pushes the problem further into the winter. We have to arrest the increase though. But we have a world beating track and trace system dont we?

Same as she always has been WWR...Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England.

Nothing changes, you don't see her now as she was even more shambolic than Witty and Valance.

Anyone see the briefing this morning.
Much more straightforward and bare facts without the politicians.

They just gave the facts and one horrendous possible prediction of 50,000 cases by October.
Stated science
7-8% of population have been infected/carry some immunity.
Cases are doubling every 7 days, but that number is increasing
We do have a bit more effective treatments, but noidea on what the long term effects of having the virus may be

Far better without the politicians making a spin about everything

I am disgusted at how some people are disrespecting the guidelines. Over the weekend I went out twice in my car and both times I saw pubs full of people outside not social distancing or wearing masks. Yesterday in Oxford was worse. No wonder we don’t have enough tests when idiots disobey the rules and infect people. Not just me but family and friends and many on here have sacrificed so much and now some people with no regard for anyone other than themselves are ruining it.
I guess we can still blame the government though.
Did you shop them to the police like Priti Patel says you should?

With respect Beth, 50,000 cases does not equate to 50,000 dead or ill people and many, many of those will be asymptomatic.
I didn’t see the news conference, however it just seems from what you’ve put very ‘over dramatic’ and out there to scare the public ?
Anyone remember the first lot of conferences months ago and the predictions that were completely incorrect.....?

Now that is not fair Stainsey...that is what they said.
And what I said was .."They just gave the facts and one horrendous possible prediction of 50,000 cases by October. I did not say dead or ill, I quoted cases , just cases. I was quoting verbattum...
and this is based on what is happening now and without action 50,000

And yes, this time I can send you the link (sorry about size I do not know how to remedy that)
Source is the PM office

I am sure this is a scare tactic, to get us ready for tomorrows briefing

So please do not shoot the messenger....

I stand by my point Beth.....50,000 cases does not equate to 50,000 dead or ill people. The emotive language being used is quite frankly appalling.
And if I’m reading it right (I’ve only just got up from a night shift, 8% of people in the UK have been affected and might have anti bodies ? So would it not of been better to have some kind of controlled exposure so more became infected, whilst protecting the vulnerable. A bit like mums having a measles party ?
These of course are just my random thoughts.

The other thing Witty said was that this rise in cases now is not due to an increase in testing ( a favourite chestnut used by various government ministers)....as since May they have been recording the % of tests that turn out positive....and that is definitely rising.
(now we could have an argument that that is not quite right.. but that is what he said)

No I am just quoting verbatium...I am not using the emotive language here.

So if we go back to the arguments we had months ago
50,000 cases...40,000 assymptomatic or mild, 5,000 very ill, 5,000 dead.
And some of those 42,000 may have long term effects like Steels missus.

Bit different to a measles party...you always got jelly and ice cream
(and werent they chickenpox parties...measles is a bit worse and has a danger of measles encephalitis in some cases

No you’re right, it was chicken pox. Forgive me as I’m obviously not as clever and of a certain age as some on here.

‘May’, ‘Could’, ‘Possibly’ all seem to be words used in abundance right now.

May, could and possibly are all words I will definitely heed when it comes to potentially suffering horrible long term symptoms or worse.

Sorry Staines my mum says I can't come to your party.
