Re hospitalisations and deaths, keep your eyes on France and Spain. Hopefully won’t reach the levels of April, but on the rise. We are, as always, a couple of weeks behind. Two weeks ago the number of infections was booming in the 20-35 age group, those pretty unlikely to get seriously ill. Now, apparently, the age cohort roughly 40-60 is catching up. Hopefully self isolation amongst the more elderly will reduce a spike in the particularly vulnerable age group.

Given that we now apparently have zero capacity to test and trace the various levels of lockdown are the only crude weapons left to government to demonstrate that it is doing something, even if no one seems to know if it makes any difference. Threats include not even allowing exercise this time. I suspect this is a bomb they can only use once, and they would be better off saving it until we are well into the winter.

Have you read any of Lionel Shriver’s fiction? Strange bedfellows indeed Strolls my friend.

Good thing we’ve got a bit of a time buffer over mainland Europe to prepare adequately to minimise the effects here like last time.

If you want to worry Col, then worry.....it’s entirely your choice.
But you have to respect the views of others who don’t want to worry.

If you thought I was being disrespectful, it's because Stroller was deriding my efforts to try to keep me and mine safe.
Ok for him though eh?

There's a difference between saying you're not worried, which is fair enough and saying that there should be no safeguards whatsoever and everything should return to pre-pandemic conditions immediately.
In my opinion, that's just being selfish and reckless.

Apparently, there were many people, during the Spanish Flu who were of the same opinion.

I still don't know which medical experts to trust on this, so I'd rather be wrong, but continue to try to do what I can to stay safe, without being paranoid, just in case I'm right.

I think comparing this virus to the Spanish flu is somewhat over stating it.
Anyway, time for bed....one night shift down

You're perfectly entitled to take whatever personal measures you deem appropriate, Col.

I'm not saying that there should be no safeguards whatsoever. People should wash their hands regularly, wear masks on public transport, and maintain distancing where possible. Vulnerable people - particularly in care homes - should be protected. All of these things make sense, but I believe the the bulk of the population should be allowed to go about their lives as close to normally as they can manage within these guidelines.

I don't believe that's selfish or reckless, just proportionate.

I don't think we're a million miles apart.

But if they make it illegal to do the things you want to do surely it shouldn't matter what we believe one way or the other.

I've been a bit lost about what to believe really but if evidence that young people are suffering health effects long after infection, enough evidence to present to the House of Lords, I really don't see how folk can be so relaxed. Like she says this is a new disease.

Her opinion is as valid as yours or mine, but Christina Pagel is a mathematician / statistical modeller and though she is constantly promoting her ideas and views, much of what she talks about is of course conjecture

If this pandemic has taught us one thing about "experts" it is that they don't have all the answers either, and hence it is very difficult for the rest of us to challenge

Similarly any news outlet wheeling out "experts" needs to recognise that very often they are expressing their personal view / take on the virus, and that it may not always be the majority view amongst the "experts"

That Karol Sikora has blood on his hands. Gets incredible airtime for a bloke with absolutely no expertise in anything relevant to this and such a bizarre history.

You wouldn't be so cocksure if you'd just spent the last six hours in A&E with your wife as I have. I hope for your sake none of your close friends and family catch this and end up with complications months down the line
Thoughts with you Steel.

You are going through the hidden side of this virus...many will.

I honestly don't think people can empathize with what is going on until they experience it, or something very similar, themselves. It is sad..

Thoughts are with you and your wife. I hope you get some information and relief from A and E.
