Local news up here, and my local area seems to be getting it quite bad at the moment, with very high death rates compared with the rest of the country. We have a fairly large population of just over 78,000 covering both urban and extremely rural areas, but we also have high levels of deprivation and poor health, and a large amount of junkies - contributing factors to the death-rate I'd imagine?

SHOCKING statistics show the death rate for coronavirus in Inverclyde is nearly three-times higher than the average for the whole of Scotland.
Official figures reveal that the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 here stand at 11.9 for every 10,000 people, while the overall national figure is 4.2 per 10,000.
The deadly disease has already claimed the lives of 93 people in the district, the latest 'heartbreaking' data from the National Records of Scotland has shown.
It is thought to be the largest mass loss of life due to a single circumstance in the area since the Greenock Blitz of May 1941 when 271 people were killed.
Provost Martin Brennan said that the figure makes for 'yet more sad reading for Inverclyde'.
The Provost added: "As a community we must never forget that we have lost 93 members of the Inverclyde community to this virus.
"These are all family, friends, colleagues and neighbours who are grieving right now at the loss of a loved one."
Throughout the district, 55 people have died in hospital, 27 people have passed away in care homes and 11 people have lost their lives to the virus at home or elsewhere.
Council leader Stephen McCabe said: "We, like many areas across the country, have been seeing a growing disconnect between the national figures being reported and what is happening in our community.
"It is both welcome that these figures have been published and also heart-breaking to see in stark detail the effect this virus is having on our community."
Councillor McCabe added: "Just the other weekend the highly respected Dr Harry Burns was highlighting that people in areas of higher deprivation are likely to be disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
"These figures for our area and other parts of Scotland would appear to confirm that."
Data released earlier this year has shown that central Greenock is now officially the most deprived area in Scotland and concern is growing about the toll the pandemic will have on poorer places.
Reacting to the COVID-19 death rate figures, MSP Stuart McMillan said: "These are heartbreaking and I offer my sincere condolences to each and every family who is dealing with the loss of a loved one at this time.
"The context for each person who has died with COVID-19 needs to be considered.
"Anyone suggesting that deprivation is the sole or main determinant is quite frankly using the statistics unfairly.
"Across the world we are seeing country compared to country, region compared to region, whilst not considering the many differences of each country or region.
"An example of this locally is the fact that Inverclyde has a high, and growing 75 and over age population group — higher than the Scottish average.
"Furthermore, the only age group to see an increase in Inverclyde over the past 20 years has been the 65 years and over age group.
"We therefore have a growing and older population.
"The weekly publication of data clearly does not highlight this."
Councillor McCabe says the figures show the impact the virus is having on individual communities.
He added: "It is important that thorough analysis of this information takes places to give a clear indication of how COVID-19 is affecting different parts of the country."
Provost Brennan said: "The statistical report is important as it can help to drive public policy and make sure that resources and action are being targeted at the right parts of the country."

Not yet out of the woods completely, but still impressive compared to our poor management of the pandemic.

It’s fortunate timing that the Telegraph broke the Neil Ferguson story they’d been sitting on at the ideal time to stop people taking so much about all the death and evidence we hadn’t been “following the science” at all.

Not nearly as clever as Leader Boris who played the “I very nearly died” card.
Just a hunch, but had he taken the virus seriously at the outset he may not have caught it huh?
That made me want to vomit, when I saw that. All those poor people who've lost their lives, yet they even try to spin his illness into promoting him.
He survived with a minimum of fuss because he’s a “fighter” and plays tennis.
Not sure what this insinuates about those who don’t survive but it made for a good headline for true patriots to get behind.

Raab says that we've got more recorded deaths because we're better than others at gathering the statistics. Another win.
Trump tweeted the exact same thing a few days ago. If they lie their way out of this, there's nothing they can't get away with.
