Can I ask how old you are Sooper ?? Its just that your first paragraph is spot on for me.
Im 51 this year and dunno if it’s ‘cos I’m getting older or ‘cos of the job I’m doing that I’m thinking more and more about my own mortality and that death is something that whatever happens, I’m not gonna escape it.
I can remember so many things in my life, like they happened yesterday......the WC1990 in Turin being a focal point for me. I can remember it so clearly. I keep thinking that was 30 years ago...and in another 30 years I’ll be 80 years old...or probably dead. It makes me sad sometimes.

I'm 66 and, sadly, can tell you that you feel it more as the years go by. I've waited all my working life for retirement and the freedom that brings only to have this sh*t storm f*ck everything up. But when all is said and done I can ask for no more than I and my family come through this with our good health, that's my new perspective.

By the way I can't tell you how much respect I have for you being so new to your job at your age and facing this, well done mate..

To be honest, I’ve loved doing what I’m doing and it was scary to take a complete change of career so late in life.....but don’t think it was the best thing for my mental health.
All the ‘growing old’ stuff has hit me more recently when I see the little boy, who I remember being born and holding in my arms......now wearing a police uniform and out on the street.
As I said....time is passing me by too quickly.

Two practical ways to slow down time and give yourself a longer life as a result:

- Experiment with LSD. Even small doses can slow down your perception of time passing. Or so I’m told.....

- Run really, really fast all the time. Or hitch a ride on a spaceship. As a cursory glance at Einstein’s theories will show, the faster you move, the slower time passes. In a relative kind of way......

Failing these two just live in the present. Works for me.

Didn’t realise you were that old do you want me to type in capitals?

Our leaders at the politburo have not only achieved but SMASHED their testing target. And only 27500 have died excluding those they’ve excluded. Congratulations dear leaders and we thank you for your continued protection of us all.

It’s like a particularly embarrassing and inappropriate Oscar acceptance speech. Everybody thanked. Bravo.

Oops Strolls, great minds etc

Prof John Newton, coordinator of the UK coronavirus testing programme, says the process of increasing testing has been a "truly extraordinary collaboration".

He says "limitless testing" at the beginning of the outbreak would have "made no difference, the decision to enter lockdown would have been the same".

which is undoubtedly true if all we had done was test, rather than test, trace and isolate, which would have saved many, many lives.

I hate these people, self serving ****ers.

Oh well done Handjob. 122K tests done "on the last day of April".. yet another manipulation of figures, as this includes tests that have been sent out, and may not even be processed yet. I wonder if it's just the cynic in me that thinks he's been stockpiling these numbers to release on the day? I'd be interested to see the figures for the 1st of May.......

You wanted him to fail the target?
Surely its good news.

Now I really do despair. Some journo just had a question, talking about the South Korean study which he said showed that people could not catch the virus twice. Professor John Newton (I’m increasingly convinced his professorship was gained via a correspondence course with the Cricklewood Campus of the University of Bumfuck South Dakota) agreed that it was a promising study, but that he would like to see it repeated elsewhere before making any decisions on immunity.

Here’s the thing. The South Korean study said nothing about immunity. It was a response to the number of cases they had of people who had seemingly recovered from the disease then testing positive again. What they concluded was that the disease does not reactivate itself (very different from catching it again) and the retesting positive had been due to faulty tests.

So in addition to the journalist not knowing what he was talking about, neither does the UKs head of coronavirus testing.

I am filled with hyper confidence that we have the team in place to really see this job through to the bitter end.

Our temporary leader is due to address the nation at 6:30pm this evening, likely to extend 2km limit for exercise to 5km and allow the over 70's out for some daily exercise...……..lockdown likely to be extended for another 2 weeks.....

He's then going on a talk show tonight to explain the reasoning......

BTW he's temporary leader due to the fact that despite having a General Election in early February we still do not have a government formed and unlikely to have one before June.....so under the constitution the old Government continues to govern and some TD's who lost their seat in the election are still Ministers of State...….<doh>
