Just to let you know I listened to a stats fella on TV today and he said a 1/3 of registry offices were closed over Easter and some deaths didn't get added to the list. He reckons may be up to 2000 more. This new ONS data takes a lot of explaining, but sadly the statisticians said that it will takes ‘years’ to understand it.
8,000 more deaths in the week ending 10 April than the five year average - 18,000 over 10,000. That’s a ****ing big %, but of course, over a full year there might yet be no ‘extra’ deaths at all - if this years numbers fall below the average for a lot of the rest of the year. Only 6,200 of these ‘extra’ deaths have been attributed to the direct or indirect effects of COVID19. The other 1800 are a mystery, but might have something to do with the halving of A&E attendances. People aren’t getting their chest pain, mild paralysis or dizziness or falls checked out because they are either too scared to go to hospital in case they catch the virus or they feel they will be a burden. Obviously it’s the elderly and vulnerable suffering in both the COVID19 and the ‘mystery’ cohorts.
Which begs the question, has the lockdown caused the ‘mystery’ extra deaths?
Discuss.
Be interesting to see the split between COVID deaths and the ‘mystery’ extra deaths of these 2000.Just to let you know I listened to a stats fella on TV today and he said a 1/3 of registry offices were closed over Easter and some deaths didn't get added to the list. He is quite a political character. If I may say, he's not a fan of the Tories. His books are a good read.Oh right. The anti Lion Witch and Wardrobe dude.
The government made the decision not to take up that scheme. Strangely as I am replying to your posts they are discussing it on the news. I did remember an article on this where an MP gave good reasons why they didn't commit to the scheme.Blimey. Philip Pullman says that ministers 'should be arraigned on charges of conspiracy to murder' if it's found that the UK didn't take part in the EU procurement scheme to buy PPE 'for Brexit-related reasons'.

I believe the main part of the scheme was for ventilators. As we stand today we have enough capacity (as just confirmed). The reporter has just said that Starmer won't comment because he has nothing to complain about re ventilators. However, one part was for PPE and I have this funny feeling that they went for a cheaper option... China.Sounds like a fair enough question though.

Sorry, mate you are talking rubbish. No one who needs a hospital has been refused. That came up the other day from one of the stupid journalists and he was put in his place by that female NHS representative. Actually his comments annoyed her.I can’t really buy that we have sufficient of anything when people are just being left to rot in care homes instead.
