Business Watch

Banks are asking for up to 22% interest and personal guarantees (ie we take your house if your business goes under) on the Government backed loans to small businesses during the crisis.

Government awards contract to build 10,000 ventilators to Dyson. Yes, the James Dyson who took his company (and it’s tax liability) out of the country, along with the majority of its manufacturing and R&D capacity, and his own personal tax home, out of the country in the lead up to Brexit, while publicly supporting Brexit. Mates rates innit. The ventilators have yet to pass medical devices regulation and some parts will need to be imported.
Ping! 1 political point to you.

Can the biomed department build 10000 ventilators
Outsourced yes. We have an innovation department for that.

Also there are a couple of engineering companies round here aligned with the F1 industries at Grove and Abingdon, that are already making respirators for the NHS.

Sadly, this total arsehole is now occupying a bed that could have been used by someone more deserving. Hope he suffers...

Not the first of these I've seen, maybe it'll take one of these "influencers" to die for this **** to stop.

Hmmm....why just post the negative?
Sadly I pointed this out the other day and got the usual 2222storm. I have noticed it on Facebook as well. Some people are just continually knocking Boris/government/ministers and even the scientists.
I think most of it comes from the usual losers (Brexit/Labour/Corbyn/Trump), They cannot distinguish between politics and a National emergency. They haven't got over previous political losses and its manifested into the Coronavirus.

As for Dyson... I couldn't care how much he will make or how much publicity he gets. If he gets 10K ventaltors sorted for the country then...:emoticon-0148-yes:

People won't moan where they came from if a loved one is being kept alive by one.

On a nicer note.
Guess what! Our central heating and boiler broke yesterday. It is surprisingly cold over night, and no hot water (except from kettle) to wash our hands 19x a day. We phoned up the HomeServe, expecting them to say...keep warm by burning your furniture etc. However, a gloved and masked gas engineer was here within the hour. He diagnosed a faulty gas valve, and is due to return this afternoon to replace it.

Now that is an essential service ...and it worked
Thank you Home Serve

You know it doesn't even have to be warm water you wash your hands with, as long as you're using soap. Listen to a bio-chemist on BBC Scotland yesterday explaining how the Covid-19 virus shell is weak, and most detergents will break the shell and kill it - we only use warm water as it's more comfortable for us. Found this advice quite useful as I don't have access to warm/hot water when I'm out on site.

I always think that when using the anti bacterial soap (in the dispenser) that it doesn't create enough foam so I keep putting more on. Especially after the public information ad shows loads of foam on the hands...

Barclays has waived interest payments on arranged overdrafts in personal current accounts until the end of April. Let’s hope the herd follows.
But then.......Pershing Square, a US hedge fund, placed a $27m bet on the world markets collapsing on 3 March. Yesterday they cashed in for $2.6bn. They are now ‘reinvesting’ their winnings by buying up cheap shares.

I hope there’s a good reason for this rather than the figures being massaged to stop anyone looking bad.

We had same thing last week, local business called within the hour, couldn't fix straight away but colleague came about an hour later and temporarily sorted. New boiler being fitted today!
Landrover still stuck in the middle of the back lawn though, been there for a week, long story!!!....

Found this interesting explaining why Spain is in such crisis...….it is originally sourced from The Guardian......

It is one of the darkest and most dramatic moments in recent Spanish history. In the chilling table of daily dead from the coronavirus pandemic, Spain has taken top position from Italy - with 738 dying over 24 hours.

Spain is now the hotspot of the global pandemic, a ghoulish title that has been passed from country to country over four months – starting in Wuhan, China, and travelling via Iran and Italy. As it moves west, we do not know who will be next.

What went wrong? Spain had seen what happened in China and Iran. It also has Italy nearby, just 400 miles across the Mediterranean and an example of how the virus can spread rapidly and viciously inside Europe.
