I am Staines, but born, bred & raised in London.

Turmeric has many medicinal characteristics. I've never heard of it being rubbed on the feet though.

It's the stuff that makes your fingers go yellow when dipping your naan bread in curry.

I guessed so mate. Yeah the ‘aunties’ seem to use it for everything where I am, but I was a bit taken aback by the feet thing :). Only seen it once and didn’t quite get why....I didn’t like to argue though and just let her get on with it while we worked further up
And they always offer a cup of tea.....though I have to mostly decline as my bladder is weaker these days :)

The most annoying thing is that I am going to be well out of pocket being home sick for 7-10 days. It's ok though because to show how highly valued we are we recieved a £15 Christmas gift voucher for all our efforts.

As you probably gather I act as a scientific advisor to a national charity on autoimmune diseases...and about once every few months we get asked about tumeric.

It seems to have genuine antiinflammatory properties. And our patients do actually take it in tablet form to decrease their inflammatory responses... And undoubtedly in powder form too in food
We don't promote it or even sanction it as we cannot in anyway control their intake...but some patient swear by it.

When my wife was hospitalised with diverticulitis a few years ago, someone told me that turmeric was good for the bowel and colon, and was good for the digestive tract. I use it quite regularly anyway. ( Not that it did my wife any good. ) I use it to colour my rice when I make paella and also add a half spoon to stews and casseroles. I enjoy its earthiness. I've never tried rubbing it on my feet though, as Staines mentioned earlier. ( I'm a bit old fashioned when it comes to that. )

My wife's Auntie, born in Kenya but of Indian heritage also swears by it. She gave her something similar in a tin (will have to check what it is) to add to her food. A sprinkle here and there. Judging by her sleeping pattern it's probably amphetamine!

If it’s a cure for everything in ‘aunties’ eyes....it’s gotta be Tumeric :)

I hope you all feel better soon Totally. Have I read right that you have all carried on as normal in Sweden. ie ... Everything is open, economy not crashed, kids attending school and people can go shopping and to pubs unmasked and socially distanced etc?

I really don’t know why this seems to be the case to be honest. Funny I was talking to my Mrs about it and she said it was a general mistrust in her opinion. Talked about some of the experiments on black people in the states with syphilis and how figures show that a disproportionate amount of black women die in childbirth......I didn’t look it up but she reckons those sort of things are known about in the black community.
Luckily her dad her no reservations, which is fortunate as he hasn’t been very well recently. I was pleased when she told me he’d had it.

Experiments on black people sounds horrendous. Is that even true in this day and age? I'd be shocked if it was.

Afraid so mate....look up the ‘Tuskegee Syphilis Study’ when you get a chance...truly horrific and something most haven’t heard about.

Was half watching something on vice last night and it said 3 times as many black women die in childbirth compared to white women in the good old US of a
Was looking at something else so I don't know the reasons given
Might look at it again later
