Lost count of the times it is 'leaked' that the government is 'considering' imposing something and Sturgeon then does it a day or two later and doubtless claims it is her idea. Perhaps if the leaks dept just did what they were considering we'd all be a lot safer...

I don't think it's dithering. They have a lot to consider.
I have just heard a plea from a Dr saying keep schools open as it will be detrimental to child welfare if they close or lockdown. Apparently abuse on kids has gone through the roof in recent months. There is also the economy they need to consider. Easy for an opposition to say lockdown and when the economy flatlines they will blame the government.

You don’t save the economy if people either die or get too sick to work properly not to mention those around them grieving. It’s **** but you have to get a grip of the health side before being able to stimulate the economy again.
Without an economy more people will die and chaos will reign. It's a tough one but we know the vast majority of the victims are elderly or have underlining issues. They are not the majority of the workers.
Underlying issues is a bullshit term though. It’s made to sound like those people are at death’s door.
I sincerely hope that Bell is right and that this approach to vaccination works, but Anthony Fauci - the US special adviser, who also has a lifetime of expertise - is opposed to it. Perhaps I'm being overly cynical, but this smacks of the government coming up with the idea and then scrabbling around for experts willing to support it.
Your last post was wrong and I think you know that (or should). You just can't close the country down as easy as some think.
It's okay for people like me... I have savings, my Mrs works from home, we have a well stocked freezer and can ride out the storm. What's is concerning is when I hear my neighbours say they are struggling with work and when my mrs drops off food at the local food bank and see's a friend using it. I had a zoom chat with friends over Christmas and I couldn't believe the stories they told of work situations.
Just do me a favour, If you want a complete 4 week lockdown don't come back bitching at at later date when the economy gets hit. Saying that, it's you, so you will.

The economy gets brutally hit either way, as I said. Countries that minimised deaths and hospitalisations are likely to fare better in the medium term economically. We’re sadly the opposite.
Absolutely terrible for ordinary people ****ed over financially by the situation but that’s because of wrong decisions made months ago and even before the pandemic hit rather than trying to put out forest fires with a bottle of Evian now.

In short, it’s not a binary choice between saving lives and saving the economy. You have to do the former to have a chance of doing the latter. If you don’t use the tools at your disposal to minimise the spread of the virus, such as a serious track and trace or adequately supporting people who temporarily should be isolating, the virus inevitably grows and lockdowns become longer and more draconian out of necessity.
Not to mention the unknown number of people who are alive but for months if not years will be less productive as a result of the unknown long term effects. This could be hitting the likes of us and America harder than other economies for years even after we’re all vaccinated.
