They haven't officially closed the construction sector though. I've seen paving gangs going about their business. Building sites open as usual, extensions being built etc. Its half hearted lockdown like I say.

Yeah that sector is a bit off, think most are too worried about going under and day labourers especially feel extremely vulnerable financially.

Looking at the UK's figures against ours as of yesterday according to the Worldometers site, you might notice a difference.

Total Cases % per 1m hab Total Deaths Deaths per 1m hab TotalTests Tests per 1m habit
UK 93,873 1,383 12,107 178 382,650 5,637
Ireland 11,479 2,325 406 82 90,646 18,358
Scotland 32,855 6,358

Although our figures per 1m inhabitants are much higher, both our deaths and tests done are much lower.

Even comparing Ireland to Scotland (roughly similar populations - (Scotland has 250-300k more), Scotland has much more cases and considerably more deaths. I only have separate figures for Scotland on total cases and total deaths.

These figures might help people decide if your government over there has done a good job or not.

EDIT
Sorry the figures above are quite confusing. The important figures are, UK has 1,383 cases per 1m inhab, Ireland has 2,325.

UK deaths are 178 per 1m inhab, Ireland has 82 deaths per 1m inhab.

UK tests are 5,637 per 1m inhab, Irelands tests are 18,358 per 1m inhab.

Scotland has 32,855 cases and 6,358 deaths, Ireland has 11,479 cases and 406 deaths.

Not doubting you, but the figure of over 6K deaths in Scotland soundd suspect

So this thread is morphing into the politics thread and will doubtless follow it in being closed soon. Shame, I’ve learnt some stuff from others on here, but so be it if it has to slip into the old slagging off of political enemies.

In the meantime 180 Romanian agricultural workers being flown in on a charter jet to help save some crops. First of many I’m guessing. The Germans have allowed 80,000 in to help out their farmers.

I find this strange unless there are posts I cannot see? You won't need to worry about anything from me because I have listened to the mods and dealt with the problem. A bit like the virus if you isolate, you stop it doing its harm. Hopefully, we shall see some calm.
Regarding Politics v Virus I think they go hand in hand so it may be difficult, however, I will read my posts before posting and stick to the virus. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Italy-UK team hopes to have COVID-19 vaccine in Sept
Researchers of Italian IRBM, Oxford University to start human testing on 550 volunteers late April

An Anglo-Italian partnership is on the frontline in the development of a coronavirus vaccine, which could be ready in September, researchers said.

The venture brings together Italian company Advent-IRBM -- based in the city of Pomezia, south of Rome -- and the Jenner Institute of the University of Oxford.

The team has accelerated human testing of the vaccine, which will start in the U.K. at the end of April.

“In light of the data acquired in the last few weeks, the first batch of the vaccine will leave for England, where tests will start on 550 healthy volunteers,” said Piero Di Lorenzo, the CEO and founder of Advent-IRBM.

Di Lorenzo explained that the team has decided to move forward with human tests after they confirmed the “non-toxicity” of the vaccine, which resulted from effective laboratory tests.

“If the phase 1 of clinical trials is successful, we expect to have the vaccine ready for use to vaccinate health personnel and law enforcement officers as early as September," Di Lorenzo said.

Sarah Gilbert, a vaccinology expert at Oxford University, also expressed optimism on the results of the trials. On Saturday, she told the British daily The Times that she is “80% confident” that the vaccine being developed by her team would work.

Di Lorenzo also added that talks are underway with a pool of international investors and several governments for a “relevant investment,” which would further speed up the development of the vaccine and its industrial production.

Scientists and researchers are racing globally against time to develop a vaccine for the novel coronavirus, which has so far claimed more than 120,400 worldwide, according to the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University. Overall, the virus has spread to 185 countries since it first emerged in China in December.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 70 vaccines are currently being developed, three of which have already received approval to be tested on humans.

I cant see this thread being closed, it's too important. Unfortunately the political thread went the way it did due to the usual suspect.
As for the 180 Romanians if they are needed then great but let's please have some sort of check or quarantine period.

I am practising behavioural economics. Oops, bit of a giveaway.
