I agree.

I think pubs ( that they aren’t doing now) is a bit too far. However, I think every member of the party in a pub should have to register they were there for track and trace. I can see the civil liberties army will be up in arms, but I really cannot see the issue.

Yep no need to show for getting in a pub IMO, track and trace details should do.

Agreed.

However, there will need to be a little give in this new world. The”I’m alright jack” won’t wash anymore if even if you are fit and young you can pass it on to those that aren’t.

But those who aren't fit and young, will presumably have been vaccinated against the current covid, so if these vaccines work as well as we're being told, they won't be at much higher risk than the young fit and healthy people because they'll already have the antibody protection.

Those who are vulnerable and still refuse a vaccine, they can't expect the young to keep putting their lives on hold and should accept the risks of no protection.

Vaccine passports for foreign travel are inevitable....will be insisted upon by other countries anyway. And some holiday companies are insisting on some form of proof already....I fully understand that if groups of probably elderly or older people are in close proximity on coaches, river cruises etc. However, I'm not in favour for more every day life....restaurants and pubs....not because these are no-risk places (because they aren't) but because not every one has been offered a jab yet and we need to get back to some normality. What is the answer....I don't know....but I can see people losing the will to even go out if it becomes too much bother.
Yep. Needing a vaccine for everyday life is insane.
The pandemic is insane and it's ongoing mutations. There isn't going to be any return to normal. Individual freedom or collective responsibility? Bars are open for take away here in the Netherlands with most people behaving, keeping their distance and being patient with slow safe service.

There will be. Maybe not exactly what is was before the pandemic but life will have return to near normality soon. I know I won't (and I'm sure most people also won't) tolerate any sort of restrictions for much longer. I can live with not going abroad for a while but I've got to be able to live life without restrictions in the UK.

I agree with all of that. We need to get back to some form of normality.

If you are at risk or in a high risk group and you refuse the vaccine, then you can’t complain.

But the problem is that the vaccine isn’t 100% so all precautions have to be taken to make that 90% to 100%.

If that means leaving your name at a pub or wearing a mask or sitting apart from friends, that is a small price to pay IMO

So it's a new normal. Worldwide not just the UK or any other country. International cooperation is being seen as necessary by most governments to contain this pandemic and those that will appear in the future.

100%
This isn’t about the UK, Europe, Asia etc, this is global. It is about the human race and life on this planet.

Sounds dramatic, but it is true.

Yellow fever, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, typhoid, hepatitis, and rabies. Mandatory for heath insurance for a number of overseas jobs over the years no jab no job. What's the problem with adding to the list and including regular testing and tracing if it helps make travel and gathering safe as it can be given the ongoing pandemic.

Yeah this.

The return to normal is already in swing, and, i know this won't be popular, but the worst of the pandemic is effectively over in my view.

Now that's not to say I'm going to start suddenly meeting dozens of people indoors or anything, I'm still going to be careful over the coming months.

Just that the worst of it in terms of restrictions is over now and things will only get better from here. There won't be another lockdown, or at least not one that the people will accept/adhere to.

I’m with you. I have been one of the ones that wanted lockdowns etc as we IMO needed them.

I think we are over the worst, stay sensible and an acceptable normal will return.

What is more normal than winning the cup final :)

Statistics are going to show more over the next few years how elitist and racist lockdowns are. The middle class, and I include myself in this, have barely suffered while the poor have lost work and businesses at an alarming rate. In the us twenty two percent of white businesses have closed, over 30 percent of Hispanic and over 40 percent of black.

Lockdown was necessary, but the vaccines make lockdowns intolerable going forward. We protected the unwell and the elderly, but now we need to protect the poor.

And no way are we not getting our old lives back. We can vote on that if you want but I never democratically chose safety of the few over the full lives of the many.

We're definitely in the home stretch now. It'll still be a couple months before something approximating normal is in place domestically in most locales, and probably 2-3 months further before something approaching normal extends to most international travel, but it will come.
