Bit like the EU insisting on open borders for freedom of movement, cost many thousands of lives that one, yet they never mention it, because there would be no more EU if they did.
Think the football stopping was probably the players pushing for it, rather than the leagues as players were showing symptoms at some clubs by then.
No that wasn't a good call but I think Germany closed their borders about 17th or 18th March and I'm sure the UK could have done as well had they wanted to. When did the UK close their borders?

Think our lockdown started on the 23rd March, but we can never close borders fully, because we can't feed ourselves as a country, would see millions starve if we did.

Fair enough Wakey, the numbers are somewhat irrelevant 1000, 10000 100000. Its still a lot and heartbreaking if one of that number is a relative. I was more interested in the account of the actions taken as if these are near the truth then surely there has to be some level of accountability and responsibility for the consequences. It was good weather here too, warm and sunny but we could do with a little autumn rain.
Have you read about what has been happening in Germany. Massive protests of up to three thousand rioting against the lockdown. Its in the mail on Sunday today.

I have no doubt that you are right about the lives saved but don't you find it odd that an organisation whose prime objective is to make money took this action rather than the government whose primary role is to protect the citizens of their country?
Hindsight, I’m reading lots on social media of people suffering with anxiety and depression and they’re going to start ignoring the rules. The government had different scientists advising different things, they had China telling fibs, they were always going to attract criticism.

The press have pushed and pushed Boris for an exit plan. He has resisted and they’ve repeatedly said we’re grown ups and continued to press. So this week Boris has said he’ll announce a road map today, he said some minor changes could be in place on Monday. The U.K. press have had a field day calling it Happy Monday leading the public to believe the lockdown is about to be lifted... Who is getting the blame? Boris, not the press but Boris.

No your right, think if they send schools back it will bring the second wave very quickly.

Well it all depends how many people have had it.

I was ill for 6 weeks during lockdown. Was it corona? Dunno.

Key to this is a reliable antigen/antibody test. Only when we know the numbers with immunity (and I know immunity is still not fully understood, but most experts believe it be highly unusual to not have it) will any country be able to plot the safest/best route to whatever a new normality looks like.

Some french schools are going back, for example- there’ll be some benchmarks by the time we are ready (an ‘advantage’ to being incompetently behind the curve)

Overseas, 44% of infected people have been found to have no symptoms but are still passing on the virus

He’s an ex journalist, he’s used the media to cultivate his affable oaf image. They know how information gets presented.

He fiddled while Rome burned or as that article suggested, proved he was a chamberlain not a Churchill.

Boris the Butcher of Britain deserves every bit of criticism he receives. And don't be fooled that the Government don't have their hand up the back of the press. They've used them almost on a daily basis before, so why not now?

Scotland have already announced that their lockdown will continue for another 3 weeks, "despite pressure not to". Wonder where that pressure came from? Certainly not the Scottish press. Try Boris the Butcher of Britain! Thanks to the Scottish & Welsh announcements, the english government is in a bit of a pickle & will almost certainly need to conform. No doubt there will be a small difference - something like letting the bookies open. Nothing left to bet on, right enough! :)

You bloody joke about the bookies, but a response I got from William Hill said the following-

"With regard to the money owed to you, which is £xyz, a decision has been made that we will pay you in full in cash once our shops are open again. As the bets were funded by cash, in order to ensure we are adhering to our regulatory requirements we must insist that we pay the winnings owed in cash as well."

Absolute made up rubbish by William Hill as I always fund bets with cash in shops and they've paid be by card previously and by a cheque in the post.

Sure, we’ve always known you can pass it on without symptoms... the point is they test people to see who HAS it... not reliable antigen/antibody tests to see who has HAD it.

If I had it. There is no way my wife and kids haven’t had it. All will be over it now. That’s part of the accidental ‘benefit’ of a delayed lockdown. Of course none of us might have had it. Multiply that ? across the country and the level of ‘immunity’ is a huge unknown.

This article shows the huge spread of data and wide variance in terms of estimated infection rates

And is the reason life can’t ever return to normal without a vaccine. Open to debate how many months or years that will take

As they haven’t found a vaccine for any corona related virus.... whilst they’ve never thrown anything like the resources they currently are ...there are no guarantees.

There’s every chance we hit herd immunity before we get vaccine

which would suit Dom Cummins. Kill off the old, the infirm, the obese... all the strains on the nhs and pensions removed. Marvellous for the economy.
