Johnson has gone into hospital.
Saw this and read that he had gone in for "Precautionary tests". He has tested positive for C-19, what other tests are there? Do all patients get to have "Precautionary tests"? or just the rich and famous. I wish the guy well, but lets have a little honesty here. Is he getting special treatment because of who he is and what are his "Precautionary tests" a precaution against exactly? Mixing with the 'stains', as he was once known to have referred to the common people and catching one of their common diseases?

They were quoting an article in the Times <ok>

The government haven’t got a bottomless pit, the minute the lockdown is lifted infections will start again. Big companies can’t last past the summer, the government won’t be able to pump any further funds in for too much longer so realistically where does it end. It’s easy to say sit it out and if it takes until the end of the year fine but the reality is that isn’t going to be an option.

They cant get the testing done quick enough so forget a cure this year. I’m not trying to argue what I feel is right or wrong, just trying to be realistic that the economy will not permit for this to continue until the year end.

I agree we might not see another sporting event or concert this year but that alone won’t stop the spread, the true fact seems to be we’re all going to be exposed to this virus one day, there isn’t an escape from it.

Going back to company bosses, many are sitting on very healthy bank accounts of their own. Do they get to a stage where they cut their losses and enjoy living off what they have or do they try and weather this out and risk losing their own fortunes?
This is a theory of mine, Ristac. If everyone stays at home and the disease drops off, when the restrictions are lift the disease will still be there. It's not going to magically disappear. What then? back into lock down?

To be fair, dipstick or not, he is still PM and I suppose merits some level of "extra" care, he is after all their leader, God help them. I read somewhere that CV-19 attacks other internal organs, not just the lungs, so perhaps they are doing some testing to make sure nothing untoward is happening.

Perhaps they suspect that his dormant brain might be flickering to life? <whistle>

In Northern Italy, 60 volunteers who thought they'd never suffered COVID-19 gave blood. 40 of them tested positive for antibodies to the virus

This is why it is so dangerous. Until we get the antibody test we just don't know how many people have had this.

There are 3 people in my team at work who have definitely had/have it. They've not been tested and are not included in the statistics. There are at least 3 of us (me included) who felt a little off and have had or still have a heavy chest. No coughing, no temperature, just a heavy chest and aches and pains. That's out of a team of about 20 of us that work in and around each other. The rest might have had it and not shown symptoms or it might just be the 3 guys who were textbook covid19 victims. Who knows?

If that Italy figure is no coincidence then it could be that 2/3 get it with no symptoms that’s encouraging

I've seen reports that in South Korea where there has been even more widespread testing up to 75% of people were asymptomatic. I have a feeling that figure is a bit high but Italy and Spain appear to be on the other side of the hump now so hopefully we're further along than we realised and will be following them within the next two weeks.

Could be. That’s why we need to do masses of immunity testing.

The president of the institution of biomedical science Alan wilson on sky now stating there is no reliable anti body test available anywhere in the world yet and will be quite some time until there is one

If the lockdown is working then hospital admissions should drop this week. Unfortunately it could be another week or two before the deaths start to drop in number.

The UK figures will look shocking as we are slowly ramping up testing everyday. The more people we test, the more confirmed cases there will be. The graph will look bad because of a lack of consistency with testing. The real numbers, the consistent numbers, will always be deaths and hospital admissions. Once hospital admissions go down then deaths will follow shortly after.

It's going to be a tough couple of weeks but looking at other countries we might be cresting the wave this week. Fingers crossed!

Exit strategy should be like China. Keep testing. Shut the borders. Stop travel. Anyone coming in from outside are put in isolation for 2 weeks or until they test negative.

We might just be allowed outside in time for winter!

Here in Queensland we have just had our local council elections and, remember, voting is compulsory here. Our State Health Minister stated on TV that, and I quote, "It is perfectly safe to go and vote". Will be interesting to see how the figures stack up in two weeks to see if she was right.

Don't think lockdown will be fully lifted for a year or so, no concerts, football or anything involving crowds and social distancing will carry on.

Probably chest exrays, to check for pneumonia, antibiotics started early can save a life.
