Sky Sports sources understand that Connor Wickham will undergo a medical at Sunderland on Wednesday after the Premier League club submitted a bid in excess of £8million to Ipswich.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are also thought to be interested in the 18-year-old striker, who has developed into one of most wanted teenagers in England.

But Sunderland are searching for long-term options, and replacements for the January sale of Darren Bent, and are consequently leading the way.

Skysports.com reported earlier on Tuesday that talks were ongoing with Ipswich regarding Wickham, but it is now understood that the deal has progressed.

Reports have suggested that Sunderland were preparing an offer of £13m, but it is thought that the initial fee is less than £9m.

Wickham has been a first-team squad member at Ipswich since the age of 16 and has also earned three caps for England's Under 21 side.

He was a member of Stuart Pearce's U21 squad during this summer's European Championship.

Thats why I never ruled Sunderland out.

sky sports understands nothing... its been turned into a tabloid station

As much as they do seem to be posting quite a few articles based on rumours on their website, I have to admit they must have something to go on here, they can't have made the whole thing out of thin air without the involved parties coming out and denying it.

I think he would get more first-team football at Sunderland and that would help him progress his career. I hope the lad does well and becomes an top-notch England striker!

I hope he doesn't score aganist us though!

BBC making it up too?

Edit - Personal terms have not been agreed between Sunderland and Connor Wickham.

Liverpool can still make a offer and hijack the deal.

Yeah, it's going to happen now. I've never seen the BBC make transfer rumours up. Shame we couldn't get him, I really rate him!

I also never post such rumours as concrete without any evidence.

I say use that possible 13 mil for Cazorla as it seems Mata is set on staying at valencia a little while longer.

Word on the street in Sunderland is that he is arriving for a medical tomorrow. TBH, he would do a lot of bench warming at LFC, I mean Suarez, Kuyt and Carroll are international players.

Mata is just saying he isn't forced to make a move, although Valencia are likely to push him out the door if a serious offer is made.

I know I'm biased but I think he will come to us for first team football then if he stars we will sell him at age 20 in 2 years, he gets experience, we make a profit, you get a good English striker in 2 years, he gets his dream move in 2 years

n0 I don't have a link, but i'm following SkyGraemeBailey on twitter, so he mentioned that, and I'm believing it

I think we could give him game time. If we're comfortably wining we could give him 20 minutes here and there, and a few cup games. Or even loan him back for the season/half a season.

Sunderland have completed the signing of Connor Wickham from Ipswich for an initial fee of £8million.

The England Under 21 international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light and the deal could eventually be worth £12million.

Sky Sports News revealed on Tuesday night that the 18-year-old was due for a medical in the North East and the deal has now been completed.

Wickham was a target of Liverpool, while Arsenal and Tottenham were also linked with the teenager, but Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has been prepared to meet Ipswich's asking price.

A statement on Sunderland's official website read: "Steve Bruce has made England Under 21 international Connor Wickham his latest summer signing.

"The 6'3" 18-year-old - rated as one of the country's brightest talents - has moved from Ipswich Town for a fee of £8m, with the potential to rise to £12m over the course of the contract, depending on a number of factors."
