Your dad is right. I remember my first Humber Derby, travelling across on the old Humber Ferry, circ 1965/66. Nearly 20,000 in the ground. Matt Tees was the main GY man and they beat us 1-0.My dad said Grimsby was Hull City's main derby.. it's only latterly people have thought Scunny & Leeds
Who cares what happens to Grimsby? Do you think they give a **** about us?

Sadly the derbies ended pretty quickly in the 70's as GY went one way and we went the other.
GY had the better days with several Wembley appearances and we looked on enviously as we slipped further and further down the football ladder.
Now it's all reversed.
Went there for a pre season friendly, Nick Prostwich's debut for us, recently, and I was surprised to see it's still 1970 in old GY.
No love lost between us.
Now they look on us and the North Bank with envy.
When I started going to City in the late 40's Grimsby and Rotherham were our big rivals in the old Third Division North.

And me one of my first away games.I was at that game also, and yes that used to be the main local derby.
Grimsby was my first away game. We lost 3-0.And me one of my first away games.
6 goals in 16 games now and he'd be a £30m player!I believe we signed their top scorer of the day, Ron Rafferty, but like many others in later years he failed misrably in a City shirt, can't remember what happend to him in the end.
