Their 3-0 win today has them now only a Wembley Final away from a return to the Football League

The final result was a 5-1 aggregate win having won the first leg 2-1

I occasionally get to Blundell Park, the old boy next door (my gardening guru and minder when I'm away) has had a season ticket since 1962, I take him if we don't have a game and his son can't make it ......... it's a poor old ground, the footballs **** but they don't half make some ****ing noise, with a fraction of our crowd.

Your dad is right. I remember my first Humber Derby, travelling across on the old Humber Ferry, circ 1965/66. Nearly 20,000 in the ground. Matt Tees was the main GY man and they beat us 1-0.
Sadly the derbies ended pretty quickly in the 70's as GY went one way and we went the other.
GY had the better days with several Wembley appearances and we looked on enviously as we slipped further and further down the football ladder.
    Now it's all reversed.
Went there for a pre season friendly, Nick Prostwich's debut for us, recently, and I was surprised to see it's still 1970 in old GY.
    No love lost between us.
Now they look on us and the North Bank with envy.

When I started going to City in the late 40's Grimsby and Rotherham were our big rivals in the old Third Division North. I never heard Leeds mentioned and of course Scunthorpe didnt come into the Football League till much later. It would be good to see them back in the League...hope they beat Bristol Rovers!!

Doncaster Rovers were also a decent rival in the 40's and I cannot remember us ever beating them when we played. I was taken to my first away match at Donny in 1948 after we had opened the season with 9 straight wins. Ended 0-0. We won the Division that season with Rotherham second and Donny third.

I was at that game also, and yes that used to be the main local derby.

I believe we signed their top scorer of the day, Ron Rafferty, but like many others in later years he failed misrably in a City shirt, can't remember what happend to him in the end.

    6 goals in 16 games now and he'd be a £30m player!
