Brendan Rodgers to stay as Liverpool FC manager after 'positive' talks

Brendan Rodgers will continue as Liverpool manager after holding a “positive” end-of-season review with chairman Tom Werner .

Rodgers has been reassured his job is not under threat after discussions today with Werner and Fenway Sports Group executive Mike Gordon in Liverpool city centre.

The talks are believed to have been progressive, with all parties having agreed to move forward together.

There is an acceptance improvements need to be made with a comprehensive plan having been drawn up to take the club forward.

Werner and Gordon arrived on Merseyside on Monday night for a wide range of meetings, including discussions regarding the Academy and the ongoing redevelopment of Anfield.

Werner will also attend the Premier League shareholders' meeting later this week.

The end-of-season review is nothing out of the ordinary with club owners FSG having held such meetings at the conclusion of every campaign since taking over in October 2010.

Rodgers has been Liverpool boss since being appointed by FSG as successor to Kenny Dalglish in June 2012.

Surely the meeting was simple, the both sat down and said to each other;
"Lets buy better players, and no more Southampton players"

Was always going to get 1 more year, especially with Klopp & Ancelotti taking breaks from the game for a year.

This year is make of break for him... a trophy is a minimum and better performances are a must. Anything less than that and he knows he'll be out of a job.

Football club owners in shock strategy: decide to actually work together on things rather than scapegoat, sack and hope things will sort themselves out while awarding themselves bonuses for making big decisions

Im sorry, but if we sacked Rodgers and approached Klopp or others, I'm pretty sure they aren't going to say give me another few months.
Terrible decision by FSG this, terrible. Klopp and Ancelotti will be snapped up and we will waste another £50m+ and come a guaranteed 5th-8th

This is true and hopefully they were trying to work out how to move this forward together rather than just cast blame and cast Rodgers asunder as is often the case.

BUT there are no managerial alternatives around at the moment to Rodgers who are a marked improvement on him. Plus bringing in a new man will inevitably mean even more change than the already significant change that has to happen under Rodgers from now on.

Ancelotti wouldn't have gone near us. He wants CL and CL only. Look at his history.

Klopp taking his break has completely ruled him out. We need to act now in order to get things straight for next season and get the players in that we desperately need.

Having said that I'm not exactly optimistic about this

And if Klopp said no?
Then we're left with Rodgers not feeling wanted.. and a squad knowing that the manager isn't wanted...

back the manager and the players will follow.

Like all season then. The players will only follow someone competent. And someone competent doesn't play a CM in RB when there is a perfectly good RB not even in the squad for some unknown reason.

I'm guessing there was no point in sacking Rodgers until Klopp becomes available.

Huge pressure on Rodgers now - fan base divided, transfer rumours are shocking and uninspiring, and every dropped point will feel like a step closer to the door.

As I said in another thread, wish him all the bed. I can't support him but I'll support the team.
