If you're really trying to lose weight. Yes.
If you prefer the taste of diet. No.

If you're only semi concerned about calories then diet drinks are an easy way to cut out calories without really losing flavour.

I read once that a coke a day equates to 20lb weight gain in the average person. Simply dropping soda over the course of a year can lower calories by 20lbs (if substituted for water)

A pizza meal is 11% fewer calories with a diet drink over a regular. A lot of people could stand losing 11% of weight even if they're not on a diet.

... Although there is evidence that drinking diet actually is worse for your weight because it stimulates your bodies desire for unhealthy foods. By tricking your body into thinking it's getting sugars and not delivering it increases desire. So whereas you get fewer calories from the coke itself... You end up consuming more.

I thin kthe last point is where it gets problems.

The body reacts to aspartame just like it were sugar so it outputs insulin so you are running your pancreas ragged to keep up. It alos his your liver. I think it also affects kidneys and makes your body want to pump the stuff away so you urinate more.

My advice is to follow the old roman rules... drink beer its the healthiest of all.

I am going to drop all suger and nonsugar drinks I think.....

I do... But not Shiraz. I had to give up wine and beer though (occasionally cheat and have a stout) If I drink more than a couple glasses in a week it gives me really bad leg pains. Not sure how/why.

that's blood pressure.

I had an american with me on a trip last year and he was on the whole cholesterol drugs and all that malarchy. he said the same. I think american beer must be poison that kills you guys off.

In the typical day I have about 3 cups Coffee. 2 cups of tea. 2 cups of rooibos. None of which is sweetened (occasional shot of Nocello in my coffee).

Couple times a week I'll have a sparkling ice. (carbonated lightly fruit flavoured water and lightly sweetened with splenda ... and nasty food colours added <laugh>)

That would explain why you're so fat.

thats yank ****e though...thats all caffeine. you get that in starbucks or dunk'n donuts.

do you have the water when you go to brighton or what?

I realise that I was just pointing out that after becoming accustomed to it, I prefer the taste of diet to regular.

No matter how unhealthy a meal I have I would always pick diet over regular. Got nothing to do with the calories... Everything to do with the taste.

I avoid comes in general now though.
I don't drink fizzy stuff at all, but I realise plenty of people simply prefer the taste of diet versions . Still, it looks funny when, after a long list of high-carb foods you see the word "diet".
This is the Cheese thread- which really is just one long piss-take anyway.
Unlike the rest of the board, of course. <whistle>

I drink too much Diet Coke and eat too many crisps.. Need to try cut down or cut it out bar the odd treat. While at work I only ever drink water (or occasions OJ) so really should try carry on when get home!

I don't drink American beer... Its awful. Guiness was my usual when I used to drink more beer.

Irish Guiness is beautiful. 10 billion calories though. I don't drink anymore, but cask Hobgoblin or Black Sheep were damn good too.

Most lager is piss, but the old bottled Holsten Pils has never been bettered, imho.
