I've actually never been to a funeral. I've been fortunate enough that noone close to me has died. So maybe I don't fully understand the ritual.

When my Wife's grandfather died I was very sick so she went alone.

That said, is it normal to go out and get drunk and party after a funeral? Never having been to one I can't draw on my own experiences, but that seems a very unfunerally thing to do.
Nah, it's the only thing to do.

It is in Latchford, because the deceased was usually a pisshead <laugh>

a really good funeral normally ends up with a family brawl followed by lachrymose making up over a bottle of JD.
 
I've never met, or only met once or twice, most of my family members. On Mum's side they're spread out across eastern Europe and don't speak English. On my dad's side most are dead or part of a family split after my grandmother's funeral so haven't spoke since (so I never met them).

I grew up with essentially just my immediate family. Saw the German grandmother once every 4 years or so.
