Yes, mate. I'm very proud of both of them. The eldest one texted me earlier and asked if I wanted to go for a meal with her tonight for my birthday (on Sunday), but I said not. It's enough just to see them both on the day I take another significant step on the road to senility <laugh>

1. Most of the music ever written was before any of us were born. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be aware of it.
2. Did you listen to Mitchell's own version of Woodstock? It is decidedly weird. The most famous version was a more straightforward rendition from Matthew's Southern Comfort. Very country-ish.
As you're probably exhausted from googling the first time round I'll put it up in the music thread for you. I hope you appreciate the effort, as I never normally bother with that thread. <ok>

1. yeah... true but theres a lot better musc from the 50s, 60s and 70s than that

2. I listen to some you tube clip of her with a piano singing it... it sounded dull. the words were given also and it was drivel really.

3. I'll go over to music thread now and see this. I do of course appreciate the effort. I have said that i perfered her version of paved paradise or whatever the title is than the modern version. however... this one... well i'll listen and see.

2. its better performance and better music that version i heard form her.

3. it's still pretty much drivel to me... is there some special meaning to the words of this song or something

2. I think that version is pretty dire too, tbh. Murdering your own song is a bit of an odd crime.
Like I said yesterday, I'm not a huge fan of JM, I just tend to leap to the defence of people who I think are unjustly criticised, and I think it's unfair to label someone as talentless because you're not into what they do.

true. i just don't like that song, never heard it beofre.. not pushed to ever hear it again.

That's not it at all. A singer should be able to hit the right key. That's the basic premise of what a singer does.

A singer should know their limits. She has a very narrow "sweet spot" which is ok. A lot of good singers have surprisingly small sweet spots.

A singer should be able to pick songs appropriate for their vocal range.


As an example, I can't stand Adele. I hate her almost as much as JM (although her Skyfell song was pretty good). That said I'd never call her lacking in talent. She has great tonality and picks songs appropriate to her vocal qualities. She is a very talented lady.

I expect a footballer to be able to kick a ball. I expect an author to understand grammar and I expect a singer to sing on key as a bare minimum. Its got nothing to do with personal preference. There are lots of artists I hate that I would gladly call talented.

Of course. The variety of bands at Woodstock was amazing. It was supposed to be a concert for about 50,000 and they reckon over 500,000turned up so they made it a free event. It signified the peak and the beginning of the end for the hippy/free love movement. Altamount followed with the Hells Angells beating a black guy, Meredith Hunter, to death allegedly just because he was with a white girl, they claim he pulled a gun on them. He is the guy in the green suit. The Hells Angels had appointed themselves the Stones security, Jagger later said the Stones were to scared to say no.
