Id say they're probably my favourite German team, brilliant fans, and I've started going them a few times in FIFA.

But they still put City out of Europe last season when they should've got pumped <grr>
 
I actually quite liked how Hamburg gave us the no surrender and big union jack treatment. Thought it was a bit of a compliment that they went to all that effort to piss us off when most other teams in big European leagues barely know who we are.
 
they are a bit like Rangers fans really, I mean we struck up a relationship with St Pauli - so Hamburg think hmmm we have to now strike up a relationship with Rangers, that'll teach em.

Just like the Israeli flags appearing at Ibrox after Palestinian flags appeared at Parkhead... or the Rangers beach balls at Parkhead etc etc

always thought the palestine/israeli flags are one of the more ridiculous OF things <doh> we should do this for every war, i take it you'd be small ethnic minority south ossetia and we'll go imperialist russia

Rangers and Hamburg goes back before Celtic & St. Pauli mick
 
HSV shares a cross-town rivalry with FC St. Pauli and to the other big club of northern Germany: Werder Bremen.HSV have an affinity with Scottish Club Rangers. HSV fans unfurl their club logo at Rangers away European matches. The link between Rangers and Hamburg dates back to the early 1970s when the Hamburg Rangers Supporters Club was set up by Rangers fans who had relocated to the Hamburg-area. The links were further strengthened when Rangers signed Jörg Albertz from Hamburg, but this was not the start of it. A further point which reinforces the affinity is the link between St Pauli and Celtic, main rivals of HSV and Rangers, respectively. HSV have a friendship bond with Hannover 96, due to both being known as HSV. Their meetings involve the visitors club song to be played, and fans chanting HSV from each end of the stadium.
