From the FA, Tuesday:Fabricio Coloccini will not serve a one-match suspension after his wrongful dismissal claim was successful.
An Independent Regulatory Commission found that the match referee had made an obvious error in dismissing the Newcastle United defender for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity during the game against sunderland on Sunday 25 October 2015.
Newcastle United have been charged for failing to control their players in relation to their reaction to the match referee’s decision.
The club have until 6pm on 30 October 2015 to respond to the charge.So let's just get this straight, the referee drops an almighty b*ll*ck drastically altering the course of the game and the FA take exception to the Newcastle players for rightfully suggesting that he's wrong. Surely the extent of Madley's error excuses whatever reaction that follows, due to extreme provocation? Newcastle United have lodged an appeal with the Football Association for the wrongful dismissal of Fabricio Coloccini during Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby match against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Coloccini was given a straight red card by referee Robert Madley in first half injury time following an incident involving Steven Fletcher, which resulted in the awarding of a penalty kick. The appeal will be heard by a Regulatory Commission on Tuesday afternoon and the Club will be notified of the result shortly afterwards. Should the dismissal stand, United's captain will miss Saturday's Barclays Premier League fixture with Stoke City at St. James' Park.

The fact that the FA confirm it as an "obvious error" by the ref suggests that the panel don't even feel it was a foul, which it clearly wasn't.

It's good to win an appeal for a change but just make the sense of injustice much worse.

Madley should be dropped to conference level based on Sundays game, was to easily swayed by the home fans. First 5 mins he gave 4/5/6 fouls against them and then the fans got on his back and he just gave up and went with the crowd! Considering the occasion he should never have been in that position as it needed to be a senior experienced ref but I have seen 16 year old's reffing at amateur level with more bottle than him!

Yeah but you can't dwell on the past and ref mistakes. Loads of people do it. McClaren should use it though. He should be trying to get a bit of siege mentality going. we are playing well over the last few games in spells. 60mins v Chelsea, 45mins v Man C, 90mins against Blunderland - we just need to use the screwing over as an extra bit of motivation to deliver a top performance and result against Stoke. Mitrovic just needs a goal or two and you feel he will go on a roll.

Totally agree with this. While it doesn't take away the hurt of losing, there was plenty to show we have something to build on with recent performances. Yes we should have put away our chances and didn't, but like you say, once Mitro gets on a roll we could have a real diamond there. Let's not forget we were playing with a 21 year old and a 22 year old up front. Plenty of room for improvement and development with both of them.

As for failing to control our players I don't have an issue with that charge. We all felt the injustice but the ref was never going to change his mind. Whether it is us or other teams this is something I'd prefer not to see in the game.

Mitro is the type who does need his partner to be functioning. Essentially we need another real option up there, I think SDJ if fit would be really useful at present. No the obvious error was in denying a goal scoring opportunity. physical contact off the ball when neither player had been or was going to be in possession is still a foul. I said it at the time; definite penalty, dubious red card but given the ref's position relative to the play he couldn't have accurately judged the distance between any of the active players and the ball. he made a choice, the wrong one as it turns out but it's not like your the first team that's happened to and you won't be the last either. 'tis the nature of the game.

To be honest I think Perez is not quite delivering at present. He is still showing nice touches, and clearly has class. His final ball has not been great and his shooting is not on point either. Mitro is the type who does need his partner to be functioning. Essentially we need another real option up there, I think SDJ if fit would be really useful at present. Agree his final ball has not been great but his shooting has been hit or miss (no pun intended). He's had a lot of wayward ones but has also hit the back of the net a few times too. No problem with forwards shooting and missing as long as they give it a go and don't always miss. I think his accuracy will improve. Some of his build up play is immense and he fits into the fast counter-attack and passing style that we seem to be trying to develop. I've noticed he is also much improved on getting the ball back too, often still in the attacking half.

FA obviously feels it wasn'ta foul, if they felt it was they'd uphold a red card, because last man, foul = red card.

But it's pretty much only a moral victory. Colbacks card was a result of the red card incident, they ought to take that into account too.

While I'm against swarming refs and players making a huge fuss about something, when there's a clear injustice you simply cannot expect players not to react emotionally, and they should, you'd expect upstanding individuals to speak out against injustice and say their piece.

It's not a penalty for me, and I think the FA agree give they used "obvious error" as their wording. They called have just referred to it as an "error".

You obviously think it was a pen, which is fine. It's done and dusted now, I do find it comical how we've been charged for not controlling our players though when the reason they weren't in control was due to an "obvious error"
