Have you any idea what football is all about? It's not about earning a few extra quid by qualifying for the CL/EL, it's about competing and winning things.
Do you really think players want to finish their career and be able to tell their grandchildren "i got in the top 4 3 years on the trot" or would they rather be able to show them a medal and say "this is for winning a cup".
