He wouldn't make the sort of investment discussed for fun and after 2 seasons he knows what he is dealing with.
While he may be wanting a long term profit I also think he wants to take some glory out of this and enhance his status back in Malaysia.
I've got some other thoughts on this which may provoke debate but it's very late so will continue tomorrow (sorry today). Night night all.

Crisis over Bluebird

Honestly, I don't have a problem with this at all. Some say they are messing with tradition, but how? Tradition is our past, and will always be there unless these guys have a tardis stashed somewhere. If the cash injection comes soon and we sign some quality players, the resistance to the changes will steadily dwindle into nothing. Bring it on!

I think it is done.As the club said, it can't say no to the financial package. Red shirts, possibly a dragon, but we are still Cardiff City....**** happens....Let's get on with it

Guys, the one thing i dont get with all this is, Why does he have to change the colour of your kit, change your nickname in order to invest the 100 million. surely i he wants to invest then just invest and keep a brand that has been around for over 100 years. Makes no sense.
Change - not always bad, especially if it saves us from doing a Portsmouth or Rangers.
We will still chant Bluebirds - probably with more passion than we have done for some time. It might actually be a positive thing: the team that plays in red but the fans (even in thirty years' time) chant Bluebirds. It will end up as a quiz question. We just need to keep the Bluebird logo somewhere - on something - and play away in blue.
Perhaps it's time for something new. I agree that the investment money is no guarantee that we will get to the Premiership (just look at the money Leicester have spent to no purpose), but if it does no more than clear the Langston debts and keep us afloat then that will have to do. It could be like a new beginning - for the club I've supported for over forty years.

TLF - Red is the biggest colour in Asia. It is a lucky colour. A Red kit with a Dragon makes us identifiable to the Asian market like no other club (i also imagine the kids in Wales will find it pretty cool). There is also a very strong rumour that other investment from outside companies has been promised based on these changes.
Our owners are not stupid. In fact, in Malaysia they a have excellent reputation. They support lots of local sporting clubs. It is very hard to predict what they are planning here, but at this point I think they just want a strong healthy club that competes at the highest level. I do not see them as the type to buy, build up, and sell.
That is what a lot of people said about Roman at Chelsea. He is still there and doesn't look like going anywhere.
The changes will be difficult, but does the club really have any choice.
I can remember the past but I don't choose to live in it. At 55 years of age, I've got a bit of mileage under my belt, but also a bit left in front (I hope!).

As someone who has spent the last 20 years supporting Cardiff away from Cardiff, I wondered if perhaps it was easier for me to accept this than those who have the pleasure of being right in the thick of it. Your post above mirrors how I feel.

It just feels a bit like blackmail to me! If you let us change your colours, badge, nickname etc. we will invest £100m. Also why wait until now? Why didn't it happen at the end of last season or even invest in some players in Jan when we were in a good position in the league???

Long time since I've been on here OS. How are you?
I have made my point on the other thread entitled Rebranding this morning.
My son is a young bluebird (16) and he was quite shell shocked last night when he read the news. He has been brought up by me as a bluebird with all the replica kits, badges, scarves etc etc. He'll get over it as like me, it's the football that will be the paramount concern but there will be more outcry over this and in my view justified as in one fell swoop the identity is being taken away by someone who has no inherent feeling or understanding of what that one word and emblem means to us all.
It may well be his club and we all want success but he cannot alienate the lifeblood of the fans as without the fans there is no club.
There therefore has to be balance. Some equilibrium. I do genuinely feel that the bluebird will be somewhere on the kit.
ps. How will VT feel when he sees thousands of City fans wearing blue replica shirts at the first home fixture??

Okay, we don't like, we're not happy with it, but change is inevitable and if we want to move on and secure Cardiff City's future, then we as fans have to go with it. I'm sure the owners will listen to fans' views (as they have for the last 2 years) and maybe they will moderate their stance a little to gain greater support.
As for playing in red? We have played in black, white, yellow and that awful plum colour in recent years - Proph wherever he is was the only guy I know who wore the plum shirt with pride. The owners see great value in the use of red in promoting the club in Malaysia and maximising earnings and further investment out there. I hope that the Bluebird can form part of the new kit to retain our identity and as others have said, the chant of "Bluebirds" will have even greater meaning to us. I trust the owners will appreciate this.
As for those who say they will stop their support. How many s/t's have we sold for next season, probably about 16k by now? If you are one of those who are so unhappy you will cease support but have bought your s/t? Will you just forego the cost of that and write off whatever you have paid?
What if the enhanced team is successful? Will you not return to the fold? The club is still Cardiff City.
Don't forget this looks like investment not a mortgage of the club like Man U (we are over borrowed anyway so no lender would look at that) so the Malaysians are putting up, on the face of it, their hard earned cash. I assume this will go into shares so not easily withdrawn other than by sale. Also this is not a Riddler scam or Venky's amateur hour or some Ruski piling into Pompey and then skimming whatever cash is around. The Malaysians have been with us for 2 years and saved, yes, saved the club form a Pompey or even Rangers collapse. They have shown they are here for the long haul and must be respected for that.
We had marches against the Riddler because he ripped us off and there was no money - although he did keep the club going - just. Will we march against the Malaysians who appear to be putting in shedfulls of cash to enhance all aspects of the club, their only sins being changing the colour of the home kit and introducing the red dragon logo to make us so much more marketable in Malaysia.
Perhaps we need these changes to get us from the despair of our play off agony of the last 3 years? New colors, new kit, fresh start?
I respect the views of those who have supported the club for so long but I have been a Bluebird for about 44 years as well so understand something of the history which we can never lose. But do we really want to return to the dark ages of the lower divisions or worse.
I say negotiate with the owners and see what they can give us back from their original proposal in return for our continued support. They are businessmen and understand that negotiation is a necessary part of getting the job done. They will play hardball but this is an opening statement and I believe they know they have to make some concessions to get as many as possible on side.

VT was never going to throw huge amounts of money at the club to get to the Prem and then have to settle the debtors such as Sam/Langstone.
Even the likes of Guy/Hall would be in a much stronger position to negotiate the settlement of their loan and the sale of their share capital to the Malaysians if we'd have gone up. The Malysian's timing is impeccable.

I'm not being flippant about the proposed changes in any way. I've probably got exactly the same feelings as most in that I would prefer things to carry on the way they've been since I started watching City in the mid/late sixties.
In other words, local owners (some times), blue strip, passionate Ninian crowds even when there was only 3,000 of us in there, and winning and losing in equal measures.
Times have changed, and sad to say that whatever our yearnings, you just can't turn the clock back.
If we need these huge changes to survive as we're being led to believe, then it's on to the next phase in our club's rollercoaster life. Let's just hope we're going upwards this time instead of another gut-churning descent.

What the hell happened when I left the pub last weekend????.........I remember Chelski winning and I remember saying to my mates that WHU would win the second leg (sorry to bring that up btw) but I don't remember Cardiff City Football Club playing in red! RED FFS!! No way pedro.......you are the Bluebirds and will always be the Bluebirds.
I just can't imagine it....its wrong surely. I have read the threads here and can fully understand the reasons why (excellent explanation by Siam!) but do you realy, truley, honestly think this will happen?.....does VT understand the tribal passion that our teams colours mean to us football fans?

Can't say I'm enthralled either, just relieved that something seems to be moving now to rid us of this debt legacy. Are these proposals a price to dear to pay? As unpalatable as they seem, I'm sure they are just that - proposals.
The right amount of pressure from supporters may well influence them to reconsider some of the more emotional aspects, but to blank them and stamp our feet in temper could be the kiss of death for the club.

It's taken until now to sort out Cardiff Blues, Sam and other creditors. I was not happy when this first come out but after sleeping on it I'm coming round.
We forget that Sam changed our colours and badge to Saint David's.
Can't remember this outcry then.

Its in the blood and its an identity that stirs the passion, joy and heartache of following the club I love. At this moment in time, stripping all that away removes that identity and to forge another one for a team playing in red would take some time... if at all.

I'm not buying the "it's VT's favourite colour" story either. You can guarantee that any changes that happen are done for business not personal reasons.
